Background
This model features a 15.4” TFT display with a 1280x800 screen resolution. It came with the Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit Operating System, an Intel Pentium Dual Core T2330 1.6Ghz processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics, and a 4000mAh battery. Additional features included a Realtek WiFi b/g card, a DVD+RW drive, and a 160GB SATA hard drive.
The A205-S5812 benefits from its thick chassis by having a very good cooling system and easy serviceability. RAM, hard drive, and battery are all replaceable with very little effort. Another benefit is that replacement parts are easy to find and inexpensive, meaning that keeping the notebook running is very affordable.
The only well-documented case of failure on these notebooks is the factory SATA hard drive. The rate of failure on these drives was higher than normal, which is a problem that has compounded with age.
Identification
First released in 2009, this device can be identified by the bold, silver TOSHIBA logo printed across the top of the laptop and a bulky, black chassis. To identify the device, a white tag is located on the bottom of the laptop with “TOSHIBA Satellite A205-S5812” printed on it.
