Background and Identification

The Wii was announced on November 2006 as a competitor to Microsoft's Xbox 360. The Wii was the first to offer the Wii remote which detects movement in three dimensions. It supported the WiiConnect24 service which enabled over the air updates until it got discontinued on June 2013. The Wii was the successor of the Game Cube and the predecessor to the Wii U. There are several iterations of the Wii, 2006-2011, 2011-2013, and 2013-2017.
