Background and Identification
Medical test and measurement equipment refers to equipment that is used to test, analyze, and calibrate various medical devices. This equipment is almost equally as important as medical devices themselves because without the ability to support medical devices, their lifespan and quality cannot be maintained. Furthermore, some medical test and analysis equipment is necessary for the development and initial quality control of a medical device. Without correctly functioning medical devices, medical professionals cannot successfully treat their patients.
Medical test and measurement equipment includes data loggers, ultrasound wattmeters, and oscilloscopes. Additionally, devices for electrical, gas, liquid, and noise testing are also examples of devices that fall into this category. Medical test and measurement equipment, however, does not include devices that measure patient data for medical treatment (i.e. scales, blood pressure monitors, etc.).
This equipment might be the same as other test and measurement equipment used in industrial, home, or business settings. The key distinction is that medical test and measurement equipment is used specifically for the maintenance and quality control of medical devices. Medical test and measurement equipment has the ultimate goal of positively contributing to medical efforts, even though it does so in a less direct way than medical devices themselves.
