Background and Identification
A medical device is any device meant to be used for medical purposes. Medical devices help health care providers diagnose and treat patients, helping patients overcome sickness or disease, and improving their quality of life. Because there is a significant potential for hazards when using a medical device, such devices must be proven safe and effective with reasonable assurance prior to receiving permission to market the medical device.
Medical test and measurement equipment refers to equipment that is used to test, analyze, and calibrate various medical devices. This equipment is almost equally as important as medical devices themselves because, without the ability to support medical devices, their lifespan and quality cannot be maintained. Furthermore, some medical test and analysis equipment is necessary for the development and initial quality control of a medical device. Without correctly functioning medical devices, medical professionals cannot successfully treat their patients. While medical test and measurement equipment can test whether the medical device is functioning properly, medical repair tools and equipment are used to actually repair the medical device.
Healthcare Technology Managers, also called clinical engineers, biomedical equipment managers, and biomedical engineers, are professionals who manage operations, analyze and improve safety and use, and support servicing healthcare technology. Healthcare Technology Managers are a fundamental part of managing, maintaining, and designing medical devices, systems, and applications.
