Background and Identification

The MacBook Pro 17” is a portable laptop computer created by Apple. With the largest display available from any Apple laptop, the MacBook Pro 17" was first released in April 2006. The 1st generation of MacBooks included IntelCore processors, an iSight webcam, and Apple’s MagSafe charger. The device is equipped with ExpressCard/34 slots, three USB 2.0 ports, and a FireWire 400 port. The MacBook Pro 17” received a refresh in October 2006, which included Intel Core 2 Duo processors and a memory capacity of 2 GB. In February 2008, Apple issued another refresh to include an option for an LED-backlit display.

The 2nd generation MacBook Pro 17” was released in January 2009. This iteration is designed with a unibody enclosure, an updated keyboard, Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and a Thunderbolt port. The trackpad, which is one giant clickable surface, increased in size from the previous iteration. An anti-glare matte screen is also available for this laptop. Apple included a non-removable lithium polymer battery which is claimed to hold power for eight hours.

The MacBook Pro 17” was discontinued in June 2012.
