Background and Identification
Hamilton Medical is a manufacturer of medical ventilators founded in 1983. A ventilator is a machine that provides mechanical ventilation by moving breathable air into and out of a person’s lungs to deliver breaths to a patient who is breathing insufficiently or physically unable to breathe. Modern ventilators are computerized microprocessor-controlled machines that are primarily used in intensive care medicine, home care, emergency medicine, and anesthesiology. Ventilators are sometimes called “respirators,” though medical terminology uses the word “respirator” to refer to a protective face-mask.
Beginning in 1983, Hamilton Medical has developed intelligent ventilation solutions to provide safer care for critically ill patients. Hamilton Medical is a leading manufacturer of critical care ventilation solutions for a variety of applications, patient populations, and environments. Steve Hamilton, an owner of Hamilton Medicine, developed “closed loop ventilation” to automatically coordinate blood gas values and ventilator function. In 1997, the “Ventilation Autopilot” was included in Adaptive Support Ventilation, which became standard on all Hamilton Medical ventilators. The “Ventilation Autopilot” mode automatically employs lung-protective strategies to minimize complications and encourage patients to breathe spontaneously. This technology improves patient safety and comfort and reduces ventilation time.
Hamilton Medical ventilators include modular ventilation solutions, compact ventilation solutions, neonatal ventilators, long-term acute care ventilators, intelligent transport ventilators, military ICU transport ventilators, and MRI ventilators.
