Background and Identification

FLIR Systems is an American company that specailizes in the design and production of thermal imaging cameras, components, and imaging sensors. FLIR is an acronym for ‘forward-looking infrared.’ The FLIR ONE is an infrared thermal imaging camera available in three generations and is limited to 9 frames per second. The cameras can be used to detect things like air and water leaks.

The second-generation model has increased resolution over the first-generation model and is supported by nearly every smartphone. FLIR ONE cameras are designed to attach to smartphones and connect to the phone’s display via the FLIR ONE application. The third-generation FLIR ONE includes a OneFit connector that is designed to fit any device or tablet regardless of case.

The FLIR ONE Gen 2 model includes a 160- by 120-pixel infrared sensor and a 46- by 35-degree field of view. It can detect temperatures of up to 248 degrees Fahrenheit and down to -4 degrees Fahrenheit.

To use the FLIR ONE camera, FLIR recommends charging the camera for at least one hour, installing the FLIR ONE application on a phone or tablet from the App Store (iOS) or the Play Store (Android). To turn the FLIR ONE on, press the power button and wait until the steady orange light changes to a blinking green light. Then, open the FLIR ONE application and connect the camera to your phone or tablet. The thermal image will automatically display within a few seconds.
