Physical Description

Zoroarks are bipedal vulpine pokemon covered in gray fur with a fluffy black mass of fur on it's upper body ending in points on it's shoulders. It's thin but strong arms end in three crimson-colored claws and it's feet likewise end in three crimson-colored claws. It's mouth and light blue eyes are rimmed with red fur, and it's head is adorned with an exceptionally large red-colored mane that ends in what resembles a ponytail. Black fur highlights the tips of it's mane, with a teal-colored bangle attached to the lower portion of the mane helping to create it's ponytail-like appearance. The mane is so large it can fit it's young, known as Zorua, inside of it.

Differing fur coloration has been observed in Zoroarks, as some specimens have been known to have lighter gray fur with reddish-brown fur on it's chest instead of black. The highlights in it's mane match this color, with the mane itself, along with it's claws on it's hands and feet, being a bright purple coloration. A yellow bangle, whose color matches it's bearer's irises, helps form the ponytails of these variants.

History

Zoroarks, and their Zorua young, were first discovered in the Lostlorn Forests of the Unova region. Given their penchant for using illusions to hide their ends and protect their packs, it's possible they may have originated elsewhere. However, ever since their discovery in Unova, they have been known to inhabit many other regions as well. Oddly enough, these other regions seem to mainly be tropical areas such as Hoenn and Alola.

Because of Zoroark's ability to utilize illusions, even to the point of disguising itself as a human, it has been theorized that some legendary figures may have actually been Zoroarks in disguise. One such legend tells the tale of a young boy with long, green hair who was raised among pokemon and was able to communicate with them, something few people are able to do. This, among other things, has caused some to believe that the young man was actually an illusion fox himself, but no hard evidence has been found to verify this claim.

Society

Zoroarks live in packs of varying numbers, and are so protective of it's dens that it will cast illusons to hide them. Such is the power of these illusions that it can fool even cameras and make one believe that they are being physically afifected when in fact they are not. These illusions are so realistic that it is incredibly difficult to distinguish them from reality, and Zoroark makes full use of this ability. It is even known to hold grudges against those who would dare hurt it or it's young, and it is rumored that these grudges are so strong that it will go so far as to hunt down the offender and trap them in an illusion.

Their protectiveness of those they love, especially their young, knows no bounds. In one case, a mother Zoroark, under the orders of a corrupt businessman who had kidnapped her child, attacked a city under the guise of beasts of legend all to ensure the safety of the young Zorua.

Despite these claims, Zoroarks are not evil creatures and only act in such ways in self-defense or in defense of their pack. Some, though rare, even live among humans, as was the case with one who aided a nurse in healing and protecting sick and injured pokemon.
