Way of the Innumerable Stars (5e Subclass)
Way of the Innumerable Stars
The Way of the Innumerable Stars is a monk subclass that grants spellcasting from the cleric spell list, focusing on the abjuration, divination and enchantment schools.
The infinite wonder of the night sky entrances many, who look upon stars beyond count and wonder what they are. Few know that feeling better than monks who follow the Way of the Innumerable Stars. They study the stars every night, utilising the power that the heavens give them to aid and protect others.

- Spellcasting
When you reach 3rd level, you augment your ascetic powers with the ability to cast spells. See chapter 10 for the general rules of spellcasting and chapter 11 for the cleric spell list.
Cantrips. You learn three cantrips: guidance and two other cantrips of your choice from the cleric spell list. You learn an additional cleric cantrip of your choice at 10th level.
Spell Slots. The Way of the Innumerable Stars Spellcasting table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your spells of 1st level and higher. To cast one of these spells, you must expend a slot of the spell’s level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest. For example, if you know the 1st-level spell bless and have a 1st-level and a 2nd-level spell slot available, you can cast bless using either slot.
Spells Known of 1st-Level and Higher. You know three 1st-level cleric spells of your choice, two of which you must choose from the abjuration, divination and enchantment spells on the cleric spell list. The Spells Known column of the Way of the Innumerable Stars Spellcasting table shows when you learn more cleric spells of 1st level or higher. Each of these spells must be an abjuration, divination or enchantment spell of your choice, and must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 7th level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.
The spells you learn at 8th, 14th, and 20th level can come from any school of magic.
Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace one of the cleric spells you know with another spell of your choice from the cleric spell list. The new spell must be of a level for which you have spell slots, and it must be an abjuration or divination spell, unless you're replacing the spell you gained at 8th, 14th, or 20th level.
Spellcasting Ability. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your cleric spells, since you learn your spells from the stars. You use your Wisdom whenever a spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Wisdom modifier when setting the saving throw DC for a cleric spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.
Spell save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier
Ritual Casting. You can cast a cleric spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell prepared.
Spellcasting Focus. You can use a holy symbol (found in chapter 5) as a spellcasting focus for your cleric spells.
- Guidance of the Stars
When you reach 3rd level, you can call upon the stars to fortify you against the spells of enemies. When you cast guidance, the creature that you cast it on can choose to use its guidance die when a spell attack roll is made against it, counting its AC as 1 higher for that spell attack roll. The affected creature must use the guidance die after the spell is cast, but before the spell is calculated to hit or miss, and it must be able to see the caster or source of the spell.
- Power of the Heavens
When you reach 6th level, you can use the strength of the heavens to empower you and your allies. You can spend 3 ki points to cast the enhance ability spell.
You can spend additional ki points to cast enhance ability as a higher level spell. Each additional ki point you spend increases the spell's level by 1. The maximum number of ki points (3 plus any additional points) that you can spend on the spell equals half your monk level (round down).
- Astrologer
When you reach 11th level, you can beseech the night sky to give you the power to endure. Whenever you cast a divination spell, you can regain hit points equal to three times your monk level. You must finish a long rest before you can use this feature again. In addition, you no longer need to sleep.
- Shield of the Night Sky
When you reach 17th level, you can summon the power of the constellations to ward you. You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. You can extinguish or restore the light as a bonus action.
If a creature hits you with a melee attack while this light shines, you can use your reaction to deal force damage to the creature. The force damage equals 5 + your Wisdom modifier.
