Water Damage (5e Variant Rule)

Water Damage

Put simply, water damage is damage dealt though certain water-themed attacks. It is a type of damage, much like slashing or force. The only creatures that can use this must meet one of the following prerequisites:

  • They must be aquatic or aquatic-based (i.e. a waterdrake).
  • They have some sort of weapon or item which deals water damage.

Some water-themed attacks use bludgeon damage instead of water damage. However, water damage can be useful in cases such as:

  • Throwing a book into the ocean.
  • Damaging fire-based creatures.
  • Creating certain elemental creatures.

Water Damage Variant

Simply treat water damage as you would bludgeoning damage in all cases, except creatures made out of fire or magma have vulnerability to water damage.
