Vologovoi (5e Race)
Vologovoi
“ | That's not like any worm I've ever seen...! | ” |
Physical Description
Vologovoi are shapechangers who possess two forms: their humanoid form, and their worm form. Usually, they are only seen in a humanoid form to arouse little chaos. In their humanoid form, they resemble pale, unhealthy humans with "empty" or lifeless-looking eyes. They are usually hairless. In their worm form, they resemble large brightly colored alien worms with fanged mouths and thick, ropey bodies.
History
The vologovoi were created on a strange, distant world. They are believed to have been subjects of horrid experiments that twisted them irrevocably, hence their lifeless eyes. They were given an inconspicuous form to fit in, and a monstrous one to deal with threats. Their alien creators sent them to the Material Plane to serve as scouts, spies, and assassins. It is believed that their creators had less than savory plans, perhaps biding time for an invasion. As generations passed uneventfully, however, their programming deteriorated and they assimilated into their new environment. Many are considered native creatures, having adapted to their new homes. Most vologovoi no longer remember nor care to recall their original purpose, as they now serve themselves. There exist a few, however, who have still an inkling of command within and try to act on it. This can sometimes drive one to extreme violence, then madness.
Society
Vologovoi, being very social creatures, easily fit into human societies. However, they do value privacy, preferring to make their homes in the nooks and crannies of urban areas where their more suspicious deeds can go unnoticed or be quickly forgotten. Therefore, they are common sights in the slums or ghettos of cities. It is not repugnant to them, more so as it is a necessity for some quiet away from prying eyes. Innately, a vologovoi is aware of something within them that is b horrible, but many try to ignore it. Their low population and low birth rates prohibit them from forming large communities of their own, though they sometimes get together and form secret enclaves of up to a hundred of their kind. Since they often frequent the same venues as that of other ostracized races, they get along rather well with creatures like tieflings and even drow.
Vologovoi Names
The vologovoi usually use two names, a false name chosen from names that are commonly used by humans in their place of birth, and their true vologovoi name. Their true name was originally given by their creator, which they now pass down out of habit. True names are gendered, as shown below:
Male: Hauga, Nololoi, Sarlocasa, Zugimos
Female: Ephalaula, Orshala, Shigia, Uschia
