I'm not quite sure how to...

Hey Green Dragon,

I was just wondering if I could somehow *cough (advertise)* help with my sourcebook, D&D 4.0 Future Sourcebook. It's a little slow going and I'm not on here often anymore. I just need a little bit of help. So, I don't know if I'm allowed to do that. Just let me know on my talk page, okay? It'll be best because I'll probably forget about the question and then I won't check over here (unless I do remember, but can you just contact me on my talk page?). Thanks. --Axl (talk) 18:28, 15 August 2012 (MDT)

Magic missle stormer

Hello i was lookin at the featured article and was wondering if there was a way to convert this to 4th ed while still keeping the same concept. i am new to d&d and have tried to look into it on my own with lilmited luck. the problem im having is that some of the feats dont seem to exist anymore in 4th edition i am using the path guy character creator so that might be my problem as well but any help you could give would be awesome.

k so im dumb my email to send me any kind of feed back is anthony.yokum1@us.army.mil that prob would have been helpful in the last message.

Talk:Magic_Missile_Stormer_(3.5e_Optimized_Character_Build)#4e! Marasmusine (talk) 01:46, 21 August 2012 (MDT)
The idea of the Magic Missile Stormer is possible in 4e, but actually considering it an optimization may be a stretch. See above. --Green Dragon (talk) 10:32, 21 August 2012 (MDT)

Disturbing news about D&D 4.0 Future (4e Sourcebook)/Chapter 5: Equipment/4e Upgrades

I found something disturbing in the above link. Apparently it is a Candidate for Deletion. May I ask why? Also, has someone been going through the stuff that was in there and deleting everything from the Heroic Tier section? I don't want anyone deleting ANYTHING in D&D 4.0 Future unless I state that I want it deleted. You know what else that I find disturbing? There isn't even a "Delete" template shown on there. Is this an attempt to delete stuff behind my back? I want answers. --Axl (talk) 16:10, 23 August 2012 (MDT)

I understand what happened now. I double checked what was to be deleted. Turns out it was a redirect. I apologize for jumping off the handle on that. Still though, I don't want anything to be deleted from D&D 4.0 Future without my consent. D&D 4.0 Future is a big project and a little overwhelming. -Axl (talk) 16:13, 23 August 2012 (MDT)
I hope the best for your edits as well. Unfortunately, the reviewing, removing, and improving templates do not care about authorship (they look at pages). If something has been incorrectly flagged, feel free to correct the situation though. --Green Dragon (talk) 16:23, 23 August 2012 (MDT)
I want to interject here to clarify that it's not appropriate to remove deletion tags from your own page, even if you think it wasn't appropriately added (most authors tend to think the tags are improperly added, so if we just went off of what they said nothing on this site would ever be improved). The proper procedure is to post on the talk page explaining why you believe the tag should be removed. When the mod goes through to check deletion candidates he will read and responses and decide from there whether or not the page should be deleted.
Secondly, if you are going to get so upset by the mere suggestion that someone will delete something you wrote, this is probably not the rite place for you. It has been said time and time again that once you post something here you relinquish control, and it can be "edited mercilessly" -- up to and including deletion. JazzMan 08:02, 25 August 2012 (MDT)
One problem is that your Future pages have the 4e category, so are listed on all the 4e indexes. When I (or anyone else) review the quality/balance of these pages, we're not necessarily going to notice that it's for your sourcebook (which uses mechanics not compatible with vanilla 4e - attack/defense scales, damage types, and so on). Marasmusine (talk) 01:31, 25 August 2012 (MDT)
Also, I should have mentioned that what I said above is for the majority of the processes. --Green Dragon (talk) 19:06, 25 August 2012 (MDT)

Homebrew Catagories

Just got 2 Quick Questions:

I was wondering if there is a section for Weapon Crystals or Armor Crystals? The kind that is listed in Magic Item Compendium...

I was also was wondering if there is a section for Intelligent Items?

"Internal Error" when trying to edit talk page.

Hi GD, do you get an "internal error" message if you try to edit then save Talk:Arachonomicon; the Book of Spiderkind (4e Sourcebook) ? Preview works. Marasmusine (talk) 12:46, 8 September 2012 (MDT)

I had the same problem. I think something in the text is triggering the spam filter. I could save the page if I blanked the whole thing, so it's got to be something in the text and not the page itself. JazzMan 15:03, 8 September 2012 (MDT)

Half-forged

Hello sorry for modifying your half forged template w/out permission but after reading the message board most ppl were more interested in spellborg so i took the liberty of balancing and tweaking a couple of stats and making it to the best of my ability " d&d standards" ty for making the half forged templat

P.s. im not even sure if im talkin to the right person but hopefully i am .

Question on format

I haven't heard back from JazzMan, so I thought you'd be next in line for me to ask. Where can I find D20 Modern creature, occupation, equipment, race, and vehicle templates?--Joba Tett (talk) 06:24, 13 September 2012 (MDT)

At their respetive preload locations. Go to pages like these and go to the "preload" page. E.g. d20 Modern Creature Preload. Edit the preload to get the information that you want. --Green Dragon (talk) 13:12, 13 September 2012 (MDT)

Help moving a page

How do I move a page? I need to move the Fallout Vehicle page to under the Fallout Equipment page.--Joba Tett (talk) 13:05, 18 September 2012 (MDT)

Putting out as far as I can!

Hi green dragon, I had posted this also on Badgers page, but I wanted to put it somewhere else to make sure others would get to it just in case.

"Hi badger, I'm sure this happens a lot but I just pulled your name first from the Admin list, hoping to get someone to talk to. Anyway, my question was aimed towards the lack of content that exists for 3.5 and has not been posted. While I understand that a lot of classes are not core, Psion as well as its including features are listed, and so I thought I might request to put up more classes, such as from the Magic of Incarnum book, or the Complete Warrior, Divine, Ect. I would love to punch in as much time as needed to get this done. My players love this wiki and I have no time to go fishing for spells in countless books. Please let me know. Thanks :) "

Feel free to email me back at aleadbrick@gmail.com

I'll jump in here. We appreciate your enthusiasm, but for copyright reasons we cannot reprint WoTC material that is not in the System Reference Document. Your energy would be best spent helping us improve what's already here.Marasmusine (talk) 12:48, 3 October 2012 (MDT)

Feedback please!

I've been very busy at the Wikia version of this site, only to find that nobody's there. So I decided to pack up and relocate my ideas here so I could get some feedback on them. Could you please take a look at what I've got? Thanks. --Luigifan18 (talk) 19:11, 13 October 2012 (MDT)

First off please remove Template:Author from your pages. Your contributions are linked to your account and to pages' histories (see their history tab). --Green Dragon (talk) 12:56, 15 October 2012 (MDT)
Are we best of deleting that template? Marasmusine (talk) 01:35, 16 October 2012 (MDT)
Yes, along with the variations that are floating around. --Green Dragon (talk) 08:51, 16 October 2012 (MDT)

Noticed something that could use some editing

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Weapon_Master is the link to your guys page which i realized inst fully published and finalized and i noticed a few errors with it, under the first ability/feat or whatever you get weapon study doesnt exist. You can actually find the weapon master prestige class in Sword & Fist Page 39 and weapon study isnt in there and its also a D10 character to verify that part under the status at the top. Also i noticed this http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Melee_Weapon_Mastery_(3.5e_Feat) has not been completed and id like to point out the information for that can be found in Player Handbook 2 Page 81. Thats pretty much all i have found for now. As a disclaimer im just trying to help and make some possible adjustments. I in no way am giving permission to copy any of the information from the books but trying to help the site become as accurate with there information as possible.

It seems the page was copied straight out of Sword & Fist, and therefore a copyright violation. Thank-you for pointing this out, it has now been removed. Marasmusine (talk) 04:40, 17 October 2012 (MDT)

Looking to help out

Hey, I just got back into my account on this site to work on my Campaign Setting and I'd really like to help out with editing and cleaning up the site, I've always loved it as a resource! Also I'd like to eventually apply for admin so I figured I'd start working now. What pages need the most help? --Ixidor (talk) 16:39, 14 November 2012 (MST)

I would take a look at the To-Do List as well as the improving, reviewing, and removing Article templates. --Green Dragon (talk) 19:30, 14 November 2012 (MST)
Wow, there are just an astonishing amount of articles that need to be fleshed out. I think I'm going to start on the to-do list but is there some system for deleting pages that go to long as a stub? Because that list is incredibly immense. --Ixidor (talk) 20:41, 14 November 2012 (MST) Right so I'm diving into 'Make sure all creatures that do not have an image have Template:ImageNeeded present.' tasker for now - just going to go top down on all the more mechanical tasks. I'll keep you posted. --Ixidor (talk) 20:47, 14 November 2012 (MST)

Relocation request

I've made a trait (Living Balloon, 3.5, link here, and on hindsight I figure it would make a better template. Could you help me make the transfer, or should I delete the trait page and start afresh on the template?

Just move the page (top bar). --Green Dragon (talk) 22:31, 16 November 2012 (MST)

Weirdness

Hey Green Dragon, I am not sure exactly how, but someone left my signature on a very low rating for the Zen Archer (3.5e Class) page. The Siggy is legit, with a time stamp and everything. I am worried that it may have been one of the anonymous users who tried to change my Shaolin Monk (3.5e Prestige Class) page. I confess that I am a little shaken up. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. --Raweno (talk) 10:59, 21 December 2012 (MST)

Possible bug? The ratings were left by IP 76.114.18.20 who left 4 tildes to sign. The tildes didn't get translated to a signature until several edits later when Raweno created a new section . Wierd. Marasmusine (talk) 11:16, 21 December 2012 (MST)
Very. But at least it's probably innocent weird. Thanks bro'.--Raweno (talk) 12:17, 21 December 2012 (MST)
If you un-comment out someone's edit and then save with that signature stamp, it will then stamp your signature. Just remove the unstamped signatures from that point and add Unsigned. --Green Dragon (talk) 13:28, 21 December 2012 (MST)
Cool. I think that it looks right, but if you haven't guessed yet, I am massively incompetent, so you might take a look. Thanks a bunch Green Dragon!--Raweno (talk) 18:11, 21 December 2012 (MST)

Wiki theme

Hi. I really, really love this wiki theme. I've been messing with different ones on the private site I use for my play-by-post game, but the canned ones out there just aren't quite doing it for me. Did you start from scratch with this theme, or did you build it on top of one of the commonly available ones?

Request

You can change my user name from Rouge Luffy to Rogue Luffy? (It was grammer mistake). Rouge Luffy talk 13:13, 14 January 2013 (MST)

It's spelled "grammar," bro. Furthermore, the mistake in question, like the one highlighted here, was a spelling error. Good day to you, sir. -- Jota (talk) 20:10, 15 January 2013 (MST)
I would contact Blue Dragon. --Green Dragon (talk) 13:01, 20 January 2013 (MST)
I went ahead and changed your username in the database and moved your talk page. Any references in wiki text itself will still need to be changed, however. If you have any problems logging in please let us know. Thanks! Blue Dragon (talk) 13:11, 20 January 2013 (MST)

Barnstar and Helper Categories

I recently found out about the award system on this wiki (Barnstars). I was thinking that since most of the people with Barnstars are experienced enough to help the average User with whatever they need help with, maybe we could compile a list of people with Barnstars, and have the Barnstar Template link to it?

On a related note, I think that it would be a good idea to make a list of people who can be contacted by other users to help with any issues or questions that they might have. For both the Barnstar and the "Helpers" page, inclusion would involve putting a Category on your homepage, like for example or . The To-Do lists "stub" and "needs balancing" pages are too large to be of any use, because there are a lot of people who have made a perfectly good class, and then forgot or didn't bother to remove the "stub" tags from the page. We could also edit the Templates to include a link to the Help page, so that people would know about it. If you give me the go-ahead, I'll start working to set both pages up. --Salasay Δ 07:13, 18 January 2013 (MST)

Made a page for the "Helpers". Can be found here. There are four categories that a User could put on his homepage to become a helper: to help balance a class, for random DnD help, for help with Formatting, and as the mother category for the other three. The different categories determine what kind of assistance the User will provide. For example, my forte is mostly in balanceing and just general DnD help, not formatting, so i put , , and on my homepage. What do you think about the idea? --Salasay Δ 09:21, 19 January 2013 (MST)
I created Category:Barnstar Recognition. Maybe we could make a page which just lists the users and their talk pages for contacting them (not sure how though with all those user subpages). The helpers, if you do not mind, should be added to Category:Request Review (as a link or somesuch, I am sure that there must be a good way to implement them). --Green Dragon (talk) 12:52, 20 January 2013 (MST)
Thank you for the Barnstar page. For the helpers page, maybe put up an advertizement for the "new helpers page", and ask people to add the categories i listed above to their User page. The page I made uses a DPL, so it will only require them to add the category. If there are any more helper types you think would be good, i'll add it. --Salasay Δ 19:56, 20 January 2013 (MST)
The balance categories ought to be edition specific. I'm much better at giving advice for 4e than I am 3.5e. Another category might be for those who can help with writing prose and proofreading (as opposed to the "Formatting" category which I take to mean making wikitables, headers, categories, etc). This would normally be an "editor", but since we are all editors, we need a different word. Marasmusine (talk) 10:01, 26 January 2013 (MST)
Changed the into and , and added and . That should cover what you mentioned. I forgot about the Flavor and Proofreading categories, mainly because I've never felt the need to get help with them, but that's mostly because I don't usually feel the need. The new version should be better. If we decide to employ this page, we should put an ad on all of the talk pages for people we think might join (i.e., Zau, Dmilewski, Jazzman, etc.). We would also want to put up a mention of it on the main page, and add a link to it on the templates for 'stub' and 'needs balancing'. We would want at least two people in every category before we put the page up on the wiki proper, so once this project gets a full green light we should contact all of the people we know of that would join the group. --Salasay Δ 17:28, 26 January 2013 (MST)
I drafted an ad to put in talk pages, found here. I think we should post it on the talk pages of people we think would be interested in joining, kind-of like what Badger did about reopening the tavern. Once we get enough Helpers in each category, we would put a different ad on the Main Page, and add a link to it in the templates for 'stub' and 'needs balancing' type things, as well as on the Homebrew main page. --Salasay Δ 13:50, 5 February 2013 (MST)
Would it be alright if i went ahead and started advertising the helpers page on the talk pages for a few people i think would be interested? --Salasay Δ 17:30, 6 March 2013 (MST)

NPC Rating

I had (another) idea. The Homebrew Classes and PRCs have a rating system, but the NPCs do not. I was thinking that a rating system for NPCs would be a good idea. I created a proposal for the categories and stuff, found here. It includes how extensive the back-story is, which is important for an NPC. --Salasay Δ 14:58, 21 January 2013 (MST)

Image Guide

Hi GD, should we have an official guideline for image placement in pages? Do we default to the Wikipedia style guide, or try to match the formatting in the WoTC books? The issue I have is with the images at Dracomancer (4e Class): I think there are too many (six), and the center-justification breaks the text - I have to scroll down past 5 full-screen-height images just to get to the class features. I had at one point right-justified the images and reduced their number, but this was reverted: User Dragonite is protective of this page. I am also troubled that, although the images are external links, almost all of these are hosted at places that are breaking copyright law (that is, they are not the source of the image and are duplicated without permission). Whilst that's not our responsibility, perhaps you'll find that unethical to link to such images. Marasmusine (talk) 02:15, 14 February 2013 (MST)

If I don't hear back from you, I'll assume that you'd like the style to match the WotC books as close as possible - that is, a limited number of right-justified images - and edit the page as appropriate (protecting it if necessary). Marasmusine (talk) 01:32, 18 February 2013 (MST)

not sure about editing and if im missing something

im what you might call a noob at wiki editing, im more a forum person and at first i was puzzled by my name vanishing off the most recently updated que and instead it reads someone else's name sallasay i think (may have just butchered it) and there were no recent posts, i looked closer to find the same edit on all my posts and it said to add a line of editing jargin to the line above the "dont remove etc." line, im not on a pc at the moment (xbox until pc is fixed) and im not used to the formatting thing so i just wanted to know if im doing something wrong and is the solve for this as easy as hitting the button to sign and timestamp my post or is it something different? i followed the name hotlink and eventually landed on this page. also i correct spelling errors when i see them but wasnt sure if i should bother the person who wrote it in the first place for such a minor correction, sorry to bother you with something so minor but im curious and am having trouble finding answeres without bugging someone about it. --Jintoya (talk) 15:25, 17 February 2013 (MST)

On the discussion pages, there is a line of code at the bottom of the page that looks like this:
<!-- DO NOT REMOVE OR EDIT THIS LINE NOR ANYTHING BELOW IT

To make a comment, copy the following line and paste it above the "DO NOT REMOVE" line:

 === ~~~ <small><small>~~~~~</small></small> ===

 -->

 Discussion
 __NOTOC__
When you post, you follow the instructions, and it puts your sig and a time stamp as a section title. I went through recently and and started fixing a problem that i had noticed where people would post under that section, and it would mess up the placement of the breadcrumb and make it harder for other people to post. As for being a noob at wiki editing, don't worry; everyone is when they start. For me, it helped to look at the code that other people used to achieve certain effects. Just find other peoples stuff that is formatted like you want it, and copy-paste it into your page and change the necessary information. If you start a thread on my talk page, i can give you some more detailed help about wiki editing. Feel free to bother me with anything you need to know.
PS. It is typically considered bad form to edit other peoples posts, even for spelling/grammar errors--Salasay Δ 13:59, 18 February 2013 (MST)
Ya, its a messy process. Do you know of any syntax or extensions that could make a post-by-post page on MediaWiki? --Green Dragon (talk) 13:41, 20 February 2013 (MST)
No. I'm not by any stretch of the imagination a programer (literate in English, 1337, and Basic Wiki-text). Although, something like the link that you use on your home page, "Click here to leave me a new message.", could work if you could perhaps change how it does the title of the section, maybe have it automatically treat === ~~~ <small><small>~~~~~</small></small> === as the new title, instead of making you type in your own. If we did that, we would have to: A) Set up the link, B) Move the "DO NOT REMOVE" stuff to the top of the page, because the link adds the comment to the bottom of the page, C) Edit existing discussions to use the new method (maybe). I could help with reformatting the existing pages and making a new preload for new discussions, but I'm can't help with creating the link or implementing the preload (I think. You have to be admin to change preloads, right?). --Salasay Δ 19:46, 20 February 2013 (MST)
I think reformatting them to be more easily useable is a great idea. I can grant you temporary administrative rights for you to work on those preloads if you like. Just let me know please. --Green Dragon (talk) 19:06, 21 February 2013 (MST)
First I need to know whether or not we are going to use the link idea; if we are, then i can add something about how it is "preferable that you use the link" or something like that inside the hide tags . I also need to figure out what im going to write, so im not going to make the edits right away. I'll tell you when I'm ready to start editing the preload. Also, once i do the discussion preload, could i make a few edits on the Homebrew Feat preload, in relation to the overhaul i helped with? (e.g. adding a Class Feats category to the preload). --Salasay Δ 16:21, 25 February 2013 (MST)
What we are looking at is an overhaul as far as I can tell. So, no, don't say "please use this alternative" make what you are mentioning the only method for discussions (an improved method overrides the current less useful one). Let me know when you want me to give you temporary admin rights. --Green Dragon (talk) 10:46, 26 February 2013 (MST)
I don't think we can use a link like the one I mentioned above, so my current idea is to change the format of editing to something like what the sandbox has; instructions, then text. An example of what I'm thinking would work. The problems I think we have are 1) people tend to add to the very bottom of the page by default, 2) the editors are not noticing the instructions because they aren't visible outside of edit view, and 3) the instructions are not that... 'descriptive' (may not be the word I'm looking for). By moving the editing instructions to the top, having the instructions visible outside of edit view, and putting a dedicated "How-To" section at the top of the page, we eliminate those issues. --Salasay Δ 17:26, 6 March 2013 (MST)
Is there an extension that would enable a click-by-post formatted discussion? If we add another organization system into the discussions I feel that it will muddle them even more, unless it is a simplified discussion post system (e.g. click-by-post). --Green Dragon (talk) 20:17, 5 April 2013 (MDT)
There probably is one, but i have no clue what it would be, or how it would be implemented. As i said before, I'm not by any stretch of the imagination a programer. We probably need to find someone who knows this kind of thing. --Salasay Δ 16:39, 8 April 2013 (MDT)

well i have started to sink my teeth into the editing tutorials for wikpedia and i think id like to offer help with the simple stuff when i can find time, i am going to seek out other peoples coding like you said, thanks for the tip. and on a note: the homebrew trait Marrowmelding, the page appears blank. i was going to add a template to either put it up for deletion or otherwise get it some attention, thats when i saw all of the information is there, its just not showing up on the page, its also protected from editing so im bringing the problem to this page, i see little other alternative.--Jintoya (talk) 11:41, 21 February 2013 (MST)

Fixed Marrowmelding. The page wasn't protected. --Salasay Δ 15:22, 21 February 2013 (MST)

Some guy with the IP adress IP ‎174.20.82.212, it seems, made some bullshit (excuse the language) changes to the page 'Great Halberd' in 3.5 Equipment ( http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Great_Halberd_(3.5e_Equipment) ). Pretty much ruined it as it looks now. I don't know if it is the right place to adress this problem, but at least I'm trying.

CATCHA welcoming issue

Recently, the wiki moved over to catcha instead of the missing letter capcha thing. I recently started welcoming people using the template. i noticed that it takes so long to actualy do the catcha, that it is tripleing the amount of time needed to welcome a user. I was wondering if it was possible to create a "Welcoming Commitee" to welcome people, and give them exemption from catcha when editing user talk pages. the size of the comittee would be relitively large, but entering would require a little bit of trust amongst the comunitee and admins. people who aren't on the commitee would still be encouraged to welcome people, but they would still have to do catcha. --Salasay Δ 14:56, 26 April 2013 (MDT)

Could I get a rating?

Hey, Peter,

I have been working on my 3.5 base class the Mime for a few years, and I finally believe I completed it today. Unfortunately, there are very few ratings on it. Would I be able to get at least one rating from you? I would greatly appreciate it.

The link to the class is:

Thank you, ~Kevin
