I started playing D&D off and on again at age 14 with 3.5e, nothing ever consistent. Back then we were just a bunch of kids throwing things together with a couple of books and no one to show us what to do. At about 21 I joined a new group (with my now wife) and started playing 4e. This time I was with people who knew the system better and gave me a much better understanding of the game as a whole. We, as a group, loved 4e because of it's easy character builder and our ability to bring in new players with ease whenever we needed to. We are now pretty experienced 5e Players and actually own rule books, which is a first for us as we had never gotten around the buying the official material. I don't do as much Homebrew these days, but every once and a while when I can't find what I am looking for I love to make things.
