    Combat Arts

Your prowess and your martial studies have given you facility with a variety of maneuvers known as combat arts.

    Combat Art Slots

The Battle Master table shows how many combat art slots you have. The table also shows what the level of those slots is; all of your combat art slots are the same level. To use one of your combat arts, you must expend a combat art slot. You regain all expended combat art slots when you finish a short or long rest.

    Combat Arts Die

Most if not all of your combat arts refer to your combat arts die. The listing in the column is the die you roll whenever a combat arts die is called for.

Combat Arts Known of 1st Level and Higher

At 1st level, you know two 1st-level combat arts of your choice from the battle master combat arts list.

The Combat Arts Known column of the Battle Master table shows when you learn more combat arts of your choice of 1st level and higher. A combat art you choose must be of a level no higher than what's shown in the table's Slot Level column for your level. When you reach 6th level, for example, you learn a new battle master combat art, which can be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd level.

Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the battle master combat arts you know and replace it with another combat art from the battle master combat arts list, which also must be of a level for which you have combat art slots.

    Martial Tradition

Choose a school you belong to, which dictates how your style of fighting develops according to the school's philosophy. Your choice grants you features at 1st level and again at 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th level.

    Disciplines

In your study of martial secrets, you have unearthed disciplines, closely guarded secrets which can make a warrior unbeatable.

At 2nd level, you gain two disciplines of your choice. Your discipline options are detailed at the end of the class description. When you gain certain battle master levels, you gain additional disciplines of your choice, as shown in the Disciplines Known column of the Battle Master table.

Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the disciplines you know and replace it with another discipline that you could learn at that level.

    Ability Score Increase

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.

    Extra Attack

Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

The number of attacks increases to three when you reach 11th level in this class and to four when you reach 20th level in this class.

    Battle Master Disciplines

    Crtical Strike

Choose a combat art which you can use. When you score a critical hit with an attack, you may apply the effects of that combat art without expending a combat art slot.

    Improved Unarmed Strike

You can roll your combat arts die in place of the normal damage of your unarmed strike.

    Magic Resistance

    Prerequisite: 15th level
You have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects, and you have resistance to damage from spells.

    Mobility

Your walking speed increases by 10 feet.

    Toughened

Your hit point maximum increases by 1 for each level you possess, and it increases by 1 each time you gain a level.
