Physical Description

A typhlosion leaping at prey. Source

Typhlosions are bulky, badger-like pokemon with long and agile bodies. It is classified as a quadruped, but it is capable of bipedal movement. Most of its body is cream-colored, but its back and the top of its head are a dark green-blue. It has a short, rounded snout and small, triangular eyes and ears. When its mouth is open, its sharp canine teeth and thick tongue are visible. Each of its paws have three digits and there is a coarse, spiky fringe of fur along its rear. Across the back of its neck, there are several red spots that can produce fire.

Some typhlosions, though extremely rare, are known to have reddish-brownish fur on it's back and the top of it's head instead of the usual dark blue-green.

History

Typhlosions, along with their cyndaquil and quilava young, were first discovered in the Johto region. Typhlosions go through a peculiar development cycle as it grows up. Cyndaquils, known as fire mice, are small bipedal creatures with two short arms and long snouts. They frighten easily and curl into a ball and shoot flames out of it's back when frightened or upset. Although their fire burns hotter when they are defensive, the flames are not able to burn properly if they are tired. Its eyes always look as if they're shut.

After a couple of years, it's body will elongate and it's front arms will develop into legs. The cyndaquil, now a quilava, gains additional speed thanks to being able to walk on all fours and can now shoot fire from it's head, giving the appearance of a mohawk. No longer a timid little fire mouse, the quilava will intimidate foes with the heat of its now stronger flames. Even its fur is stronger, becoming almost nonflammable as it is able to withstand most any fire attack.

Three to four years later, the quilava gains a bulkier build with a thicker coat and even goes through a growth spurt allowing it to stand almost 6 feet tall on its hind legs. In fact, unlike its previous form, typhlosions seem to prefer walking on their hind legs, yet they don't sacrifice the speed their younger selves have. In fact, they seem capable of even faster speeds. Its fur, although nonflammable, can cause explosions when an angered typhlosion rubs its fur together resulting in everything around it erupting into flames. In fact, the fire that erupts from a typhlosions back is often compared to a volcano erupting. The haze this heat emits is so thick that it can practically hide in it.

Despite the fact that typhlosions and their young are native only to Johto, rumor has it that cyndaquil can be found on the cliffs of the Alola region's Melemele Island. Even more interesting is the fact that these cyndaquil seem to not use their flames to fight, instead using kicks. No one is entirely sure why this is the case.

Society

Typhlosions don't have much of a society to speak of, as they tend to live solitary lives even as cyndaquil which are known to strike out on their own after being only a few months old. Should a typhlosion choose to dwell in human society, they more often than not find jobs with blacksmiths, in foundries or just aiding in any task that requires extreme heat.

Typhlosion Names

Typhlosions usually have names in Ignan, but will take Common names if they choose to live in human society.
