The Mother of Puppets (5e Subclass)

The Mother of Puppets

Warlock Subclass

You have made a pact with an extraplanar entity formed of and fueled by the fears of mortals; your patron is associated with the fear of being manipulated, exploited, and of your will not being your own (also, sometimes, spiders). This entity is usually unable or unwilling to influence the material plane beyond granting supernatural abilities to those it believes will provide even more fear that it may feed on. If it has chosen you, it either believes you will make the fear of being controlled widespread, or that you yourself will develop into a source of this fear.

Expanded Spell List

The Mother of Puppets lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

LevelSpells
1st levelbane, command
2ndweb, animal messenger
3rdbestow curse, sending
4thgiant insect, compulsion
5thmodify memory, dominate person
Arachnophobia

Started at 1st level, you cannot be frightened. Additionally, you gain a climb speed of 10 feet.

Subtle Strings

Starting at 6th level, the range of spells which compel creatures to obey you or otherwise allow you to control their actions is doubled, and the targets of these spells must succeed on a Intelligence check against your spell DC to become aware they are being influenced.

Weaver

Starting at 10th level, an area 20 feet in radius centered on you becomes difficult terrain for any creatures you choose; this area extends above and below you, and effects all forms of movement. Additionally, your climb speed increases by 20 feet and you can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Puppetmaster

Starting at 14th level, you can cast mass suggestion using a warlock spell slot. Creatures targeted by this spell are charmed by you for the duration. Additionally, any creatures you target with spells which compel them to obey you or otherwise allow you to control their actions have disadvantage on saving throws to avoid these effects.

Your Pact Boon

Each Pact Boon option produces a special creature or an object that reflects your patron's nature.

Pact of the Chain. The familiar granted by your patron seems to know what you are thinking and act before you command it. It almost certainly has the default form of a spider.

Pact of the Blade.Your pact weapon could be covered in spiderwebs, or could be made of twitching black chitin.

Pact of the Tome.Your Book of Shadows might be bound with silk, and written using vague and indirect language whose gaps you find surprisingly easy to fill.

gollark: Wait, what? When was that?
gollark: Nobody has blocked me, as far as I know.
gollark: Nope.
gollark: I don't block people, generally.
gollark: Well, "one thing" *implies* I don't know other things, which is factually untrue.
