Talk:Heavy Armor Modification (5e Feat)
Balance
I'm not sure if it's just me, but this feat seems really powerful. If a creature has multiattack or has legendary actions, you'll automatically do 5 (2d4) or even as much as 15 (6d4) damage every round; and you can give this benefit to anyone in your party with heavy armor. On top of this, it creates armor of resistance out of any heavy armor for the price of the silver contained in 50 silver pieces.
But there's other issues, too. Realistically, why could a Heavy Armor Modifier give these benefits to plate armor, but not half-plate armor? Why is only one benefit giving a penalty, and why is this penalty to arguably the least useful effect? (I say "least useful" only after comparing the levels and durations of invisibility, protection from energy, and hellish rebuke.) - Guy (talk) 06:10, 26 July 2018 (MDT)
Re:Balance
You're right, it wasn't my intention to make it this powerful, I just tried to write my ideas for it down as quickly as possible before they left my mind and multiattack was not in my head when I had this idea.
The reason I think that half-plate couldn't receive this bonus in a realistic way is that half plate is already missing sections of armor, so removing any more would be difficult. The basis behind using this modification is that you remove certain small pieces between the larger pieces of armor to prevent noise from being made during movement which also reduces protection slightly. Also, in the case of invisibility you are still able to be detected, namely through making tracks and sound (such as armor clinking), so you aren't completely undetectable.
The hellish rebuke type modification will be nerfed a little bit for balance reasons. I must admit that it was a little too strong.
I agree with that the armor of resistance modification is actually almost busted. I think that I'll up the ante, so to speak, and increase the materials cost and such because you are basically making a magic item. I will also have the list be more limited so as to make it less on par.
My original idea was to make it so that you are the only one who is able to use these modifications and I have an idea on how to fix it so that is the case. I think it should help solve the problem of this feat being too strong since it can only affect yourself.

Changes
Actually, it turns out that I don't have permission to edit the page, so I will just talk about it to you directly.
With the stealth type modification, I was going to reduce the penalty to -1 AC with that armor to make it more enticing, because it's possible to reach 18 using Dexterity without the use of heavy armors and still have stealth capabilities.
I was also going to reduce the dice for the hellish rebuke modification to 2(1d4) and only allow it to deal that on a hit instead of hit or miss.
The resistance armor modification would have been reduced to selecting fire, lightning, and cold damage to resist and increase the required material to 10 pounds of powdered silver.
As for only allowing you to wear the armor, I was going to state that modified heavy armors are considered a new type of armor called "Modified Heavy Armor" and requires proficiency in modified heavy armors to be able to gain the use of the modification, which you gain alongside the feat.

- You don't have permission to edit the page? Are you sure? You should definitely still have permission—as far as I can tell no one has locked the page. - Guy (talk) 09:17, 27 July 2018 (MDT)
- Yes, a message pops up telling me that I don't have permission and the reason is that the page is protected.

- What probably happened was you clicked the "edit" button next to the subheader, which for some reason makes you try to edit Template:5e Feat instead of whichever page is using that template. That's caught me a couple times too. — Geodude

- Yeah, that's it. It makes sense now. I'll get right to those edits that silly me messud up at. Thank you for all the help, ai have always enjoyed input on the things that I created, and I much enjoy creating things. You deserve the cookie you have received. May I actually ask you a question? How does one add bullet points using this "format," for lack of a better term. I have already learned so much, just by looking at how you type things.
