Talk:Fey Knight (5e Class)

Partnership

Hey hormy ive got some ideas for features. what about a fey ancestry esque feature around 5th level? also what about beast taming and possibly a faerie dragon familiar? Also maybe something like a rangers primeval awareness? We could level the flying like the monks unarmored movement. also possibly a sprite familiar. Bannanameds (talk) 16:41, 23 February 2017 (MST)

Now that ive thought about it and read the shadow knight page i could literally finish this class in an hour or so. May I? Bannanameds (talk) 16:52, 23 February 2017 (MST)

Sure. Why not? Let me just explain how mechanics are going to work

They start with the flight ability, and it begins at their base land speed -5, gaining 5 feet per 2 levels or so. The Primal Awareness detects if there is a disturbance in fey energy They should be able to get the hover feat as one of their fighting styles. One of their fighting styles should essentially be just jumping everywhere, like a Dragoon.

The rest is up to you. Hormy (talk) 08:14, 24 February 2017 (MST)

Questions

Hey!

I need to know if Templates exist in 5e, because I am making a class feature on the class that requires a Template. If I don't have it, I can make do. It will be easier if I have a template, though. Hormy (talk) 18:59, 27 February 2017 (MST)

Hey, I've got a question. The class continually refers to "Master's Orders," but I can't find anywhere that that feature is actually defined. What is it? And have I simply missed it? It sounds like something that should go under its own class feature section, but maybe I've missed something. Vyrun (talk) 05:11, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

If you're at all still working on this, I agree. Some explanation/creation on "Master's Orders" would be great, or at the very least the general idea you had behind it. Heliotrope (talk) 21:44, 20 November 2017 (CST)

Suggestions

Hello, fellow wikian! I stumbled upon your work, and I found it fascinating! However, I think that some of the features could be improved. Here are my suggestions on your works:

  • Skills. From what I know, bards get to choose three from all skills and rogues get to choose four from a wide variety of skills. The rest of the classes get to choose only two. Given that the backgrounds give you two skills, I suggest giving only two would be appropriate. Either that, or you can consider using Expertise features for certain skills.
  • Feysense. So you are under the effect of the detect evil and good spell, but with expanded radius and a limited uses. Maybe you can just say: "You can cast detect evil and good at will. When you cast the spell this way, the effect radius of the spell is increased by 30 feet. You can use this feature a number of time equal to your Charisma modifier (a minimum of 1). When you finish a long rest, you regain all expended uses."
  • Fairy Strength. I don't think this is in any way balanced, this is for minmaxers. Abusing with ability score improvement don't sound nice to me, nor do I think it's necessary at all.
  • Feyflight. An interesting feature, but I think this is a bit too strong. Multiclassing fey knight with monk gives you 65 feet of flying speed, at least. Since flying is one of the most efficient way to get away with most of the obstacles, I suggest keeping the numbers down. Here is my idea: Instead of adding the flying speed to your current walking speed, make it gives a separate flying speed, to a maximum of 30 feet.
  • Fey Guide. I think the words could be abused to no end. First of all: Do I get any challenge rating limitation or anything? Any creatues that is not fiend or undead? Does that mean that I can make a fairy tarrasque? I think just casting find familiar that restricts the type to fey would suffice.
  • Fairy Strike. Paladin's Divine Smite, but deals extra damage to constructs instead of undeads. Not bad, I guess.
  • Fey Sustenance. Just gaining proficiency bonus to the Acrobatic skill (or Expertise it if you already have one) would be nice.
  • Fey Choke. Save DC could just use the fey knight's spell save DC. Plus, I think this feature is a bit too overpowered, rendering a single creature semi-incapacitated and having a chance of insta-kill.
  • Fairy Sight. 180-feet-radius, or +120-feet-radius to your ordinary darkvision? A drow fey knight would need no light whatsoever. Plus, Perception proficiency is a bit too overpowered, considering that darkvision already allows you ignore the usual hindrance of the darkness.
  • Fey Rest. You still have to take eight hours of rest to gain benefit of the long rest, right?
  • Fey Weapon. Feats are completely optional in 5th edition, mind you, so I suggest removing that part about the Dual Wielding feat. Besides, I think that a typical fey knight would be happy with a weapon on one hand and a shield on the other, so I frankly don't think that was even necessary.
  • Fey Mind. Like Fey Ancestry feature from elves and other fey-oriented races. I suggest taking this feature to the lower level, since some of the fey knights already have this feature as their racial trait.
  • Nature's Protector. What is this "fey energy" anyway? How long do I have to meditate to gain this benefit?
  • Fairy. I think treating as both fey and the original creature type would be better, considering that there must be some benefits you gain from being a humanoid.
  • Feywild Boost. Same as the Fairy Strength feature above. Abusing with ability score increase would be problematic.
  • Fey Army. Five spell slots, you say? Of any level?
  • Cantrips. Maybe you can include this to the Spellcasting feature at 2nd level.

In short: I love the premise, but I think there are some rooms for balancing. I am counting on you, I think that fey knight would make an awesome class. Have a brilliant day, fellow wikian! --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 03:26, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Oh, and one more thing - 5e classes have archetypes, and I recommend you adding two or three of them for your class, for added variety and whatnots. I suggest, say, a fey knight archetype that further implements the power derived from the Feywild, and a fey knight that delves into the power of the Shadowfell, and more to come. The official Unearthed Arcana article has introduced some of the aspects of the Feywild's denizens, I suggest implementing these would help you further flesh out the fey knight. --WeirdoWhoever (talk) 03:29, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Balancing in progress...

I'm going to work on balancing this, I kind of like the concept but some stuff doesn't make sense. --Kermon (talk)20:17, 9 April 2020 (MDT)

gollark: There are no vehicle mods *on here*.
gollark: The best you can do vehicle-wise is... horses with neural interfaces, or maybe minecarts?
gollark: There are no vehicle mods.
