Speed Dragonbeast (5e Race)

Speed Dragonbeast

Did you just call me a kobold?! Do I LOOK like one of those fake dragon lizard things?!

Physical Description

Considered one of the more bizarre dragonbeasts, these smaller sized dragonbeasts are largely considered a different race altogether. However, the name still applies, and they do share the general foundation for their race. These dragonbeasts appear much more reptilian, with only a small amount of mammalian furs on their brows and armpits, as the hairs impede their build for speed. They have opposable thumbs, can walk with a more upright position bipedally, and smaller snouts and eyes further embedded in their skulls. Unlike normal dragonbeasts, which could breathe flames, these dragonbeasts lack the organ and instead have venomous fangs.

History

All dragonbeasts in general are believed to be a result of a phenomena known as dracofication. Supposedly, following the waning power during the Time of Dragons and the rise of the Untheric empire, Tiamat was raising horrid spawn in her battles against Bahamut. Among these activities, her followers sought to keep their faith amid the apathy towards the draconic gods. They wanted to aid her in her battle, and so tried to replicate the spawning process. Their methods used other creatures as bases for draconification, which imbued powers and properties of dragons into them. What made this truly a horrible act was that the essence they imbued these creatures with was that of the chaotic Tiamat herself. Thus, many of these creatures could not live through the process and degenerated.

Most dragonbeasts that survived lost most of the qualities of their original form. Creatures too small to survive were overwhelmed by the methods and died, while others became chimeric beings. This makes the speed dragonbeast an anomaly since they are smaller than usual. Thus, it is believed by some that they may actually be related to kobolds.

Society

Speed dragonbeasts like to travel in packs. They often are belittled due to size and therefore have distrust of larger creatures. Their size does leave some room for imagination, as they are incredibly fast and therefore often prone to stealing and playing pranks and hightailing out of sticky situations. The fastest in their society are called stingers and given special regard among their packs, similar to a chief. These dragonbeasts are heavily reliant on teamwork and footwork due to their size.
