Sorrel's Well of Infinite Lances (5e Spell)

You channel your inner arcane energy into a brilliant display of light that leaves a shimmering 20 ft. pool of radiance on the floor within 120 ft. of you. This pool disappears if you move more than 120 ft. away from it. Upon casting this spell, the pool summons twelve magic Lances that seek random enemy targets within 120 ft. of it. The missiles behave as per the magic missile spell, but dealing 12d8+12 force damage.

This page is of questionable balance. Reason: If I've read this correctly, this spell deals nearly 800 damage in a single turn. If I've read it incorrectly, it still deals a potential total of 165 damage. This is closer to balanced, but the damage is unavoidable, as per Magic Missile. Standard 8th level spells should have an average of 66 damage, less if no save is allowed. Also, the 'pool of radiance' has absolutely no effect.

Sorrel's Well of Infinite Lances
8th-level Conjuration
Casting time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a small silver disk that isn't consumed by the spell)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

As a bonus action on each subsequent turn, you can choose to channel your inner energy on the pool to summon two additional Lances and choose who those lances strike.

At Higher Levels. At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 9th level, the spell creates five more lances.
