Consume Life. As a bonus action, the shinen-gaki can target one creature it can see within 5 feet of it that has 0 hit points and is still alive. The target must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw against this magic or die. If the target dies, the shinen-gaki regains 10 (3d6) hit points.

Ephemeral. The shinen-gaki can't wear or carry anything.

Incorporeal Movement. The shinen-gaki can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.

Variable Illumination. The shinen-gaki sheds bright light in a 5- to 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional number of feet equal to the chosen radius. The shinen-gaki can alter the radius as a bonus action.

ACTIONS

Fire Bolt. Ranged Spell Attack: +5 to hit, range 120 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d10) fire damage.

Ethereal Flames (Recharge 5-6). The shinen-gaki emits ethereal fire in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Shinen-gaki, also known as onibi, are flying orbs of fire which are distantly related to will-o'-wisps and these flying burning orbs generally come in different colors such as a dark blue (ghost fire, or yokai-kasai) or a dark crimson red (hellfire, or goka) or sometimes even a sickly dark green (beru-kasai) and very rarely a dark otherwordly purple (witch fire, or majo-kasai). These flying spirits generally spit motes of spiritual fire at their enemies from a distance and if foes get too close they spray a fearsome blast of fire upon them. These creatures are easily defeated by cold or holy power. Now some of these shinen-gaki can also have other elemental alignments like cold or lightning for example, or even necrotic or poison and their colors of their fire match these abilities.

Followers of Evil. The shinen-gaki generally serve powerful oni and fly about at graveyards following aswang, buwan aswang and jiangshi (chiropteran ghouls, flying chiropteran ghouls and leaping vampires). Tsuno no oni and various kinds of akuma can summon swarms of them during combat and they float in a circle above these powerful fiends.
Shinen-gaki dance around graveyards, in the mist, bogs, dark caverns, ruins of villages and battlefields littered with corpses. They do take sadistic pleasure in killing already dying mortals and feasting on their terror and agony, but they also seem to play amongst themselves and the spirits of the dead, strangely enough. They play peekaboo with powerful beings or heroes from trees and tombstones or dance with wraiths and other dead spirits to strange music which emanates from wind chimes that were placed in trees. Generally, nobody is truly aware of how these wind chimes appear there but they play their macabre dirge and draw these spirits towards them.
Though many shinen-gaki are chaotic evil, many others in distant forests or near temples have become less malevolent and more playful. These spirits generally glow a light blue and are neutral as they simply enjoying watching and dancing among the trees.
