The life of most dragon hatchlings are short, as they are soon eaten by their stronger broodmates. often, red dragons will trade away these doomed broodlings to those willing to offer wealth or power. This includes trading with the infernal realms. Those hatchlings taken are changed by their new home and masters, growing phenomenally in strength and power. Their breath becomes hellfire and their appearance that of shadow. They grow from pets into creature of flaming terror, ruling through might those who they once feared. Even balors obey the largest shadowfire dragons without question.

Demonic Traits: Shadowfire dragons possess the following traits (unless otherwise noted in a creature’s entry).

  • Immunity to electricity and poison.
  • Summon (Sp): Once per day, beginning as an adult, a shadowfire dragon may summon any demon or combination of demons equal to its CR-2. This ability is equal to a the dragon's highest spell level.
  • Telepathy.

Flaming Body (Su): The air around a hellfire and shadow dragon burns with infernal fury. Any creature not immune to hellfire takes damage per round, while inside this aura. There is no save. This fire even affects those immune to fire.

Negative Energy Form (Su): Shadowfire Dragons are deeply tied to the negative energy plane and count as undead for purposes of spells that affect undead or creatures of negative energy. Shadowfire dragons may be turned or rebuked as if undead.

'Protection from Good (Su): The shadowfire dragon is protected by Protection from Good.

Shadowfire Breath (Su): The breath weapon of a shadowfire dragon is cold based. In addition to cold damge, the breath weapon confers one negative level to all targets. Save negates. The save for this effect is Fortitude based and made at the same DC as the breath weapon. This breath affects all target corporeal and incorporeal. If aged to a great wyrm, the shadowfire dragon can breathe negative levels (1d10 saving throw, must beat 6). If successful, lose one level. If failed, lose levels equivalent to how many numbers below the player rolled number.

True Seeing (Su): Shadowfire dragons have a continuous true seeing ability, as the spell (caster level 20th).

Strength Damage (Su): The touch of a shadowfire dragon deals 1d4 points of Strength damage to a living foe. This damage increases as it ages. A creature reduced to Strength 0 by a shadowfire dragon dies and returns as spawn. This is a negative energy effect.

Insubstantial Strike (Su): The shadowfire dragon attacks beings in semi-shadow form. It's attacks targets as a touch attack. Due to the shadowfire dragon existing in both physical and shadow realms, it's physical attacks are weaker. All physical attacks do 1/2 damage to opponents, whether material or shadow.

Create Spawn (Su): Any humanoid reduced to Strength 0 by a shadowfire dragon becomes a shadow under the control of its killer within 1d4 rounds.

Unholy Aura (Su): The shadowfire dragon is surrounded by negative energy.

gollark: ????????¿??????????
gollark: Length-termination has better properties, like disallowing representation of certain strings, and requiring O(n) time to get the length of while being less practical to efficiently process than null-terminated ones.
gollark: It's too fast and simple.
gollark: I learned how to use SIMD intrinsics properly recently maybe, so I could totally* work out a way to performance it.
gollark: Uncool.
