SRD Talk:Improving Creatures

Additional tips

User:Ghostwheel was kind enough to answer some of my questions regarding how to properly upgrade monsters. You can find the discussion here. SharkD 01:31, 1 August 2009 (MDT)

Question

There is one thing I don't quite get and cannot seem to find anywhere on the site. I'm also havign toruble locating the answer in a book, so hopefully someone more experienced can help me - since ""A monster’s total Hit Dice, not its ECL, govern its acquisition of feats and ability score increases."" how does one determine how many feats a creature gains based on HD? Say, an ancient Red Dragon - approx. 34HD, and dragons gain a single feat plus any other granted by HD advancement. How many does 34HD grant? The d20SRD page doesn't give me an answer either. --Keudo 19:48, 16 September 2011 (MDT)

A creature gets 1 feat per 3 hit dice. (It's in the fine print of the table here: "All types have a number of feats equal to 1 + 1 per 3 Hit Dice."). So a 34HD dragon would have 12 feats. JazzMan 12:45, 18 September 2011 (MDT)
gollark: PotatOS sort of has that, actually.
gollark: `skynet.send("turtle-assist", ("help! @ %d %d %d"):format(gps.locate()))`
gollark: Contact a player.
gollark: Build a turtle emulator out of a Plethora laser and computer.
gollark: This sounds like Premature Optimization\™.
