Midas Warrior (5e Race)
Midas Warrior
“ | These things can't hurt you! Their king turned them into solid gold ages ago! See, I'll pull a finger and show ya... | ” |
Physical Description
The midas warrior has sleek golden skin, reflective and like gold in every way. They are humanoids in shape only, around 8 feet tall, with semi-muscular limbs. Their bodies are burnished with the shine of gold. Even their eyes are solid gold, firm to the touch. All features are normal in shape, but they lack any real orifices for procreation or ingesting. They are often wearing golden armor of similar make.
History
The history of the midas warriors extends back to ancient times when a particularly silly and foolish king ruled in a certain kingdom. The king, Midas, had good intentions often but he was not the brightest. He found a satyr trapped in bramble and freed it. Grateful, the god of the nature spirits offered the king a wish. Stupidly greedy, Midas wished that all he touched would become gold. It was done. He now had the golden touch. Immediately, he turned his castle gold, the floors, and even currency into gold. He was ecstatic at this new wealth.
His happiness was quickly unfounded, as when dinner rolled around, he turned all his food and drink into instantly. Even water stopped flowing when it touched his lips. A bit distraught, he turned several handmaidens into statues. This heightened his fear and he soon even turned many of his guards into statues. Last of all, he accidentally embraced his daughter, the young princess, and turned her as well. He cried to the heavens to take this wretched power away and give him back what he'd lost in his thoughtlessness. That they did, or so the tale goes.
There are still these golden statues which are rumored to be able to move, patrolling the old grounds where the kingdom last stood.
Society
Midas warriors largely are found guarding the kingdom where their foolish king first created them. They behave like human soldiers, but are inured to pain and sensation. Day in and night is spent marching the grounds and being sentries for a kingdom long fallen, but they seem not to have noticed it. People see them as odd, creepy automatons, as they display less free thought and sentience than even early warforged models. Treasure hunters are extremely wary of these living statues, which can ambush if one is not paying attention. Midas warriors, meanwhile, do not really care for others opinion, and focus solely on guarding, perhaps waiting the return of their empire.
Midas Warriors Names
Midas warriors may not have even been human once, as their statues lack much of human outer anatomy even. Regardless, they are known to have vague and general names to denote their job as sentries.

Rigidity. Your soldier attitude prevents you from being slowed in pace. You are immune to the effects of difficult terrain.
Golden Being. Your creature type is construct instead of humanoid. As such, spells like cure wounds don't affect you, and you are immune to spells like crown of madness or dominate person because they specifically target humanoids. You are immune to poison damage, being poisoned, and diseases. You do not need to eat or breathe, and any food you do attempt to eat remains stuck in your mouth mostly since you don't have much of an inner digestive system. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 6 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Still Statue. While you remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from a normal golden statue.
Metallic Being. Being made of solid gold means you are quite hard. But gold is still a rather soft metal. When unarmored, your Armor Class is equal to 12 + your Constitution modifier. You may use a shield and still gain this benefit.
Mendable. As you cannot heal via conventional methods afforded normal biological creatures, you can instead be repaired like an object. When the mending spell is cast on you, it has the following alterations: It has a casting time of 1 action. If you have 0 hit points you become stable. As part of the casting of mending the caster may expend any level of spell slot to cause you to regain a number of hit points equal to 1d8, plus their spellcasting ability modifier. For each level of the spell slot expended you regain an additional 1d8 hit points.
Languages. Despite your vocal chords of solidified gold, you can read, write and speak in Common.
