Mana Creature (5e Race)

Mana Creature

Mana creatures are beings made entirely out of magical energy. They first came to be during a war between the gods. So much magical energies was in one place, that they coalesced into a being of pure magical energy, the first mana creature.

Physical Description

Mana creatures of the free mana subrace can take on any appearance they desire, but in their base form are simply insubstantial form of magic ranging in colors from light to dark blue light. A mark of a free mana creature is that no matter their appearance, the air seems to be charged with power and they retain a blue glow. Mana creatures of the crystalized mana sub-race are humanoid shaped masses of crystals with the colors of blue, green, and white being the most common. Crystalized mana creatures can be found in all shapes and sizes, but they are always humanoid in from and made of magical crystals. Crystalized mana creatures are also noted to mostly eat rocks of primarily igneous origin instead of regular food.

History

Mana creatures are said to be one of the oldest known races, created as an accident by the gods. The oldest mana creatures tell stories of the race being created from the massive amounts of magical energy that was used during the war between the gods. It is said that after the war, the gods planned to create several artifacts for their champions, so they may better deal with any future threats. When creating these artifacts however, the air was still humming with magical energy from the past battle, and when a god tried to create an artifact that was far beyond their power, it shattered. The god, worried that they spend energies would go to waste, tried to coalesce the magic in the air back onto the broken artifact. To their surprise, the magic formed into 8 odd creatures made of magic. The god although surprised, welcomed the new creatures into the world and seeing the failure, sought to create more of these "mana creatures" through using the latent magic energy still left over from the battle. Since then, the creation of mana creatures is facilitated by their creator in areas of where magic is in extreme abundance.

Although the creation of mana creatures has since been heralded as a miracle, the race itself has had a checkered past. At first, the race enjoyed many long years of peace and prosperity where the race explored the world and delved into the secrets of magic. When several other races came about and learnt of magic, mana creatures where there to teach them. This changed however when a group of greedy mages captured a free mana creature and a crystalized mana creature to conduct tests on them. The mages learned that free mana creatures could have their magic drained to enchant magical items at breathtaking speeds and crystalized mana creatures bodies severed as powerful magic gemstones that could be used to create magical items due to its ability to easily absorb magical energy. The small group of mages soon acquired a vast number of magical items and quickly gained power beyond that of most other mages through the power of powerful magical items. Although they tried to keep how they gained such items a secret, the info was eventually leaked and a mad hunt for mana creatures ensued. The few that escaped capture, chose to live in hiding, knowing that with time the race would eventually be forgotten.

Society

Mana creatures, being very rare and hunted do not form communities often. The few large populations of mana creatures that do exist, are hard to find and travel constantly. These communities tend to live far away from other settlements. The mana creatures who live in these communities research the very essence of magic, old magic's, and long forgotten spells. There doesn't exist a true hierarchy in their society, but those who have lived the longest and researchers who have discovered ground breaking secrets about magic are looked up to.

Incorporeal Body. You count as one size smaller when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. You float a few feet above the ground. This allows you to ignore most forms of difficult terrain and makes you immune to being knocked prone. However, you can float no higher than 5 feet and when you are reduced to 0 hit points you stop hovering. You hover over large holes or gaps in terrain smaller than 5 by 5 feet wide.
Made of Magic. You are made of magic and can use your own magical essence as a source to cast spells. To cast spells from your own essence, you must consume charges to cast spells, one charge per spell slot level. You start with 1 charge and you gain additional charges at levels 5, 9, 13, and 17. You can use this trait to cast any spell from the sorcerer spell list, and Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells. You regain all expended charges when you finish a long rest.
Magic Soul. If you enter an antimagic field, you feel your form tremble. You have 1 minute to get out of the antimagic field before you drop to 0 hit points and are knocked unconscious, but stable, until you are removed from the field. After you are removed from the field, gain the hit points you had before you dropped to 0 hit points.
Changing Form. You use an action to change into a magic form of any Medium or smaller creature that you know of a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier(minimum 1) and regain the uses of this trait when you finish a long rest. You gain the size of said creature with the items you currently have on you, but still have all of your abilities and gain none of the form you take. If you wish to take the form of a creature you know little of, you must make a Intelligence check with a DC of 15 or 20 to change your form into a creature you have little knowledge of or no knowledge of respectively.
Elemental by Nature. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.

Crystalized Mana

Enchanted Body. Although your body is made of rocks and crystals, your form itself is heavily tied to magic. When you are in an antimagic field, you have disadvantage on all attack rolls and ability checks.
