MSRD Talk:Weapons

Table of Contents

This page is so short, does it really need a table of contents? Could someone who has access please add __NOTOC__ to the top of the page? JazzMan 18:28, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Question

How does one start a conversation about a particular subject? For instance, the damage for short arms aand long arms is too similar. In real life, handguns demonstrate a lethality of only 19%, and rifles have a lethality of about 41%. Thusly, the handgun damages shown should be cut in half.

Certain handgun cartridges (10mm, .45ACP, .357 Magnum, .41 Magnum, and .44 Magnum) have more damage potential and should show higher damage than normal handgun calibers with a '+' modifier. Ditto with rifle calibers.

The major difference between handgun and rifle cartridges is the muzzle velocity of the cartridge. Generally, MV's of less than 2000 fps is classified as a hangun cartridge and over 2000 fps is a rifle cartridge. Of course, there are several handguns that can fire rifle cartridges and many rifles can fire handgun cartridges, usually with either a decrease of MV (the former) or an increase of MV (the latter). eldarbeast

Well, we can't change the SRD so you can discuss it all you want, but not much is going to happen. There are some good articles out there by Wizards about why they made it what they did. It boils down to a few things (1) highly lethal and/or highly realistic games aren't fun (2) your characters are heroes, not joe-schmoes on the street (3) all weapons need a tradeoff or else some weapons will never get used, and (4) it's got to be simple enough that people actually want to use the system. gollark: I shall breed more dragons to make it slightly more interesting in about two days.
gollark: Remember to call it a/the "nocturnepocalypse".
gollark: Just get anything from Coast.
gollark: *has accidentally doomed mankind*
gollark: Now to gather some xenowyrms and other cool dragons, breed them, and figure out how to somehow get recognition.
