Lightsabers (5e Equipment)

This content intends to provide a different experience, or goes beyond the scope of the anticipated subjects and situations, than the 5th Edition rules were intended to handle. Some portions of the content below may not be what you expect from traditional game content. When implementing this content, DMs and Players should read over all the information carefully, and consider the following specific notes of interest:
This weapon should be discussed before being used. It combines weapon properties not typically associated with one another. In addition, there is no damage type associated with this weapon and it also has a penalty if you wield without proficiency-another design choice that sets this apart from 5th Edition precedent.

Lightsabers

A beam of energy no bigger than the blade of a sword emits from a metal hilt, lightsabers are the favored weapon of jedi. While they may appear identical to one another, a wielder can customize their lightsaber by changing the style of the hilt and color of the laser. This energy is created from a crystal inside the hilt that the jedi know how to make. A switch allows the wielder to turn the weapon on or off. A low humming is produced by a lightsaber and as it is waved and moved through the air the pitch and tone will change. A loud cackle is made whenever a lightsaber strikes another object. Hilts can have curves to them for better grip, or maybe one would design a hilt at the end of a walking cane. Double-bladed sabers can have an assortment of switches that allow wielders to turn on one side only, switch which side is lit, or to separate the sides from each other and have a saber in each hand.

Special. If the wielder is not proficient with this weapon, they have disadvantage on their attack rolls. In addition, lightsabers don't deal a type of damage. The damage cannot be resisted.

Kyber Crystal Colors

This optional rule grants moderate benefits to a lightsaber user depending on the color of the crystal inside the lightsaber. A light saber may only have 1 crystal. Each kind of crystal has a different cost and effect. Additionally, while the significance of lightsaber colors is contentious, the Legends information has not been contradicted in canon. Force point cost reductions assume the user has levels in the Jedi/Sith class.

Green Kyber Crystal. Green lightsabers are used primarily by those who seek to understand the mysteries of the force, and fight the dark side at its heart. All light side force powers you use have their force cost reduced by -2 points. This crystal is Common.

Light Blue Kyber Crystal. Blue lightsabers are by jedi who focus on the physical application of the force, most often through righteous combat. You gain a +2 bonus to attack rolls. This crystal is Common.

Dark Blue Kyber Crystal. A variant of the traditional blue lightsaber, dark blue lightsaber users focus on outright damage output, rather than the acrobatics of typical lightsaber combat. You gain a +2 bonus to all damage rolls. This crystal is Common.

Yellow Kyber Crystal. Yellow crystals are primarily used by jedi balanced between the physical and mental applications of the force. You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls, and all light side force powers you use have their force cost reduced by -1 points. This crystal is Uncommon.

Orange Kyber Crystal. Orange crystals are also used by jedi balanced between the physical and mental applications of the force, but with a more straight forward combat style. You gain a +1 bonus to damage rolls, and all light side force powers you use have their force cost reduced by -1 points. This crystal is Uncommon.

Bronze Kyber Crystal. Bronze crystals are used by jedi of great might and valor. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. This crystal is Uncommon.

Red Kyber Crystal. A red kyber crystal has been bled by a sith, cementing them in the dark side. All dark side force powers you use have their force cost reduced by -2 points. This crystal can only be created by meditating with another crystal for 1 hour.

Purple Kyber Crystal. A purple lightsaber crystal is a complete oddity, often signifying that a jedi has previously, or potentially actively with moderation, dealt with the dark side. You gain a -2 cost in force points to all force powers. This crystal is Rare.

White Kyber Crystal. Are just as much, if not more of an oddity, as purple crystals. You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. This crystal is Rare.

Black Kyber Crystal. Constructed by the first Mandalorian to be inducted into the Jedi Order, this "Darksaber" embodies the user's pride, but not necessarily their darkness. Lost to the depths of the jedi archives, legend states that there is only one of these blades in existence. While wielding a lightsaber with a black kyber crystal, you gain a +2 to AC. This crystal is Legendary.
