This black metal gauntlet permits the wearer to make a Coup de Grace attack as a standard action rather than a full-round action. The attack does 1d12 points of damage as the Heartripper Gauntlet reaches into the victims chest and extracts the heart. Although this damage is doubled because a Coup de Grace attack is automatically a critical hit, extraction of the heart is instantly fatal to most creatures (and so the actual damage is a moot point).

The Heartripper Gauntlet cannot be used against creatures who are not affected by sneak attacks or critical hits. Fortification effects have the stated chance of preventing a critical hit. In that case, the victim takes only 1d12 points of damage, but the critical hit (and the extraction of the victim's heart) is prevented. The victim must still make the Fortitude save required of a Coup de Grace attack, or die. If the victim is affected by critical hits, and has a heart, but for some reason the loss of the heart would not be fatal to the creature, the victim is not instantly killed (but must still make the Fortitude save required of a Coup de Grace attack, or die.

Extracting and crushing the heart of a victim serves as an Intimidate check to demoralize an opponent; this check applies to every foe who has line of sight to the victim. Any foe becoming shaken by this intimidate check remains shaken to the end of the encounter. When not in combat, this serves as a more straightforward Intimidate check. Intimidate checks in conjunction with ripping out a heart with this gauntlet have a +2 circumstance bonus.

A Heartripper Gauntlet may be used to make attacks as a standard spiked gauntlet. It has no enhancement bonus as a weapon, although it is a weapon, and attacks made with it are considered armed attacks. The Heartripper Gauntlet is a magic weapon, and damages creatures that are damaged by magic weapons. Heartripper gauntlets are often used as an off-hand weapon, and so are found as left-handed weapons more often than right-handed. }}
