Weapon(scimitar), artifact (requires attunement by a creature with a Wisdom score of 15 or higher)

This wakizashi was forged by the same hands that crafted Roukanken, meant to be wielded together with that blade. Hakurouken looks much like a proper wakizashi, however those who gaze at it feel a slight sense of surety and certainty in their hearts, as if the blade's simple and modest appearance helps to lay their fears to rest. Much like Roukanken however, a closer inspection reveals that the craftsmanship is nigh impeccable, with zero imperfections anywhere in its construction; the blade also never rusts or dulls.

When attuned to this weapon, one who holds it feels their fears melt away, and a strong sense of finality, self-confidence, and certainty in their soul; they feel that they can stand true to themselves without hesitation.

Lightweight. This weapon's weight is 1 lb.

Magic Weapon. An attuned creature gains a +3 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls with this weapon.

Unbreakable Edge. This weapon cannot be broken by any known means. Additionally, if it would be targeted by an effect that would destroy a weapon, such as a Rust Monster's Rust Metal trait or Antennae action, it instead ignores it.

Hesitance-Severing Edge. This weapon deals 3d6 psychic damage instead of the slashing normal for a scimitar.

Without Hesitation. Having this weapon in your possession gives you the feeling that your motives are always just and that you will never again show hesitation in your judgement. While attuned to this weapon, you are immune to the charmed and frightened conditions, and you gain proficiency in Wisdom saving throws. If you are already proficient in Wisdom saving throws, then you instead add double your proficiency bonus to any Wisdom saving throw you make.

Cutting Ties. An attuned creature can use its action on its turn to make a special attack with this weapon. The target must be an ally within this weapon's reach who is suffering from a curse or is being possessed. When you make this attack, the target takes an amount of psychic damage equal to 1d6 + your Wisdom modifier, and then one curse of your choice ends on the target, or if the target is being possessed, you may instead choose to instantly end the possession effect. Additionally, you yourself can no longer be possessed.

Judgement. When you hit a creature with this weapon, you may choose to cause an additional effect to the target depending on their creature type, as listed below:

  • If the target is a full undead, it must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier) or be instantaneously destroyed, and if they have a soul, it is ushered to the afterlife. A soul ushered to the afterlife in this way cannot be resurrected by normal means.
  • If the target is a non-undead or only partially undead (such as with a half-human half-phantom), unless it has damage resistance or damage immunity to psychic damage, the target makes all its Wisdom saving throws at disadvantage until the start of your next turn. You may only have one creature subject to this effect at a time.

Variant: Progressive Hakurouken

Becoming Accustomed to Hakurouken

Due to the incredibly powerful and spiritual nature of this weapon, simply attuning to and picking up this weapon is not enough to unleash its full potential. One must go through extensive use and long-term "attunement" by wielding this weapon in many battles and circumstances, gradually unlocking its abilities through understanding this weapon at a more spiritual level, which takes time and patience. When attuned to this weapon, the wielder begins with it in its modest form. At certain levels, or after enough time has passed, or otherwise after certain story progression has been achieved (all at DM discretion), then the Hakurouken will progress to its next form, eventually becoming The Blade of Purification Hakurouken. Recommended levels are listed for each form.
