Hold Breath. While out of water, the star can hold its breath for 1 hour.

Long Arms. The star can make a grapple attempt as a bonus action.

Regeneration. The star regains 20 hit points at the start of its turn. If the star takes acid or fire damage, this trait doesn't function at the start of the star's next turn.

Underwater Camouflage. The star has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made while underwater.

Water Breathing. The star can breathe only underwater.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The star makes two pseudopod attacks. If it is grappling a creature, it may make two bite attacks against that creature.

Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (2d6 + 2) piercing damage.

Swallow. The star makes one bite attack against a Tiny target or Small target it is grappling. If the attack hits, the target is also swallowed, and the grapple ends. While swallowed, the target is blinded and restrained, it has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the star, and it takes 12 (3d8) acid damage at the start of each of the star's turns. A star can have only one creature swallowed at a time.
If the star takes 20 damage or more on a single turn from the swallowed creature, the star must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate the creature, which falls prone in a space within 5 feet of the star. If the star dies, a swallowed creature is no longer restrained by it and can escape from the corpse by using 5 feet of movement, exiting prone.

A Common Brittle Star (Source)

Brittle stars are close relatives of starfish, with long, whip-like arms they use to crawl along and swim, if awkwardly. While they lack their starfishes long lives, brittle stars do occasionally grow to giant sizes. However, rather than engulfing things much larger than their mouths, brittle stars are generally scavengers or detritivores, with those that do hunt organisms preferring prey smaller than themselves. In spite of this, their mouths are still capable of biting.

gollark: Maybe they're ungendered. Maybe TJ09.
gollark: I think breeding would become worse due to the extra CB rares presumably being gotten.
gollark: With infinite egg space, the optimal hunting strategy would just be to pick up stupid amounts of eggs and see what's behind them, and leave most to die.
gollark: I like to use my small aeon army to precog things so I get the disappointment early.
gollark: Yes, I know.
