Gem Crafter

A gemcrafter is a very unique kind of wizard that doesn't use the weave like most spellcasters do as they harness a branch of it called mana to craft gems to place into various structures in order to make them pulse with energy

Gem Crafting

Long ago in a distant land, there once were wizards who tapped into a strange kind of magic called mana. These wizards used this mana to create gems that could allow one to defend a location from far away, cast spells with unique effects, and even manipulate time relatively early compared to the more well known wizards. They thrived in a place called the 'Spiritforge' where they could defend locations from miles away, and practice their magic in safety, but they grew too ambitious. They harnessed the power of Demons, and needed to summon more to keep up with the supply demand. Eventually, they summoned a particularly nasty demon called "The Forgotten" who was unstoppable. Try as they might, she eventually used their own powers against them. Old gems of eternity that were used to contain her were the weapons she utilized to break the protective barrier, and wipe them out. Some say that a few managed to escape the forgotten and seal her away, only to perish to time. But with the excitement of adventure in distant lands, it was only a matter of time before the secrets were revealed, and ancient tomes were uncovered. Will you build an unstoppable force to be reckoned with? Or will you fall to the same forces the wizards before you fell to?

Creating a Gemcrafter

Think about where you learned this long lost art, and how you started down this dangerous route. Who (if anyone) gave you these tomes? Are you careful with every little script you read? Or do you cast each spell first and ask questions later?

Gemcrafting Specialty

At 1st level, you can choose a Gemcrafting Specialty, detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 1st level and again at 6th, 10th, 14th and 18th level.

Beneficial Properties

Your research about gems have led you to unearth secret powers on magical gems, that can enhance the abilities of any creature wearing it.

Starting at 2nd level, you can choose two of such properties of your choice. Your beneficial properties options are detailed at the end of the class description. When you gain certain gemcrafter levels, you gain additional properties of your choice, as shown in the Beneficial Properties Known column of the Gemcrafter table.

Additionally, when you gain a level in this class, you can choose one of the property you know and replace it with another property that you could learn at that level.

Sentient Gemstone

At 3rd level, you learn how to develop sentience on a gemstone of your choice, from your known list. The sentient gemstone has the same characteristics of a familiar summoned by the find familiar spell. If your sentient gemstone is reduced to 0 hit points, you can bring it back, by spending 10 minutes and 15 gp in dust of gem from the type broken.

Your gemstone has the characteristics shown on the statblock on the bottom of the class description.

Additionally, when you take the Attack action, you can forgo one of your own attacks to allow your sentient gemstone to make one attack of its own with its reaction.

Ability Score Improvement

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.

Awakened Gemstone

Beginning at 11th level, your control over the power of gemstones allows you to awaken the true power of your gems. As an action, you gain 6 special gem slots that you can spend only on gem spells that require an action or a bonus action to use. You can use all 6 gem slots on one gem spell, or you can spread them across multiple spells. You can’t also spend your normal gem slots on these spells; you can spend only the special gem slots gained from this feature. When you finish a long rest, you lose any of these special gem slots that you haven’t spent.

If more than one of the spells you activate with these gem slots require concentration, you can concentrate on all of them. Activating one of them ends any effect you were already concentrating on, and if you begin concentrating on an effect that doesn’t use these special gem slots, the spell end that you’re concentrating on. At 15th level, the number of gem slots you gain from this feature increases to 8. You have one use of this feature, and you regain any expended use of it with a long rest. You gain one additional use of this feature at 13th, 15th, and 17th level.

Gem of Eternity

At 20th level, you can make one of your gems have a permanent supply of energy. You can cast the 1st-level spell of that gem without spending a spell slot.

In addition, whenever you roll initiative, you regain one non-awakened spell slot, that you can use to cast spells from that gem.

You can change your Gem of Eternity when you finish a long rest.

Beneficial Properties

If an beneficial property has prerequisites, you must meet them to learn it. You can learn the beneficial property at the same time that you meet its prerequisites. A level prerequisite refers to your level in this class.

Some beneficial properties require two or more gems to be socketed at the same time. They will be indicated in parenthesis, after the "Sockets" entry.
