Frost Demon Assassin

{{quote|You can feel the chill of death settling in before one arrives.|orig=Jorel Jaxson, Dirt Farmer

At first you see snow falling until it becomes so thick that you cannot see at all. The screams of your allies sound faint as you search hopelessly around, wondering what evil has beset them. Then an icy blade rips through your flesh, spilling red blood on the white snow. And as quickly as it began, it ends.

Becoming a Frost demon assassin

Power of the absolute zero can wear down even the stoutest of warriors. This is a class for conniving cold-hearted demons and half fiends.

Class Features

Sneak Attack (Ex): This is exactly like the rogue ability of the same name. The extra damage dealt increases by +1d6 every other level (1st, 3rd, and 5th). If an Frost Demon Assassin gets a sneak attack bonus from another source the bonuses on damage stack.

Cold Subtype (Ex): At level 1, Frost Demon Assassin gains the cold subtype. A creature with the cold subtype has immunity to cold. It has vulnerability to fire, which means it takes half again as much (+50%) damage as normal from fire, regardless of whether a saving throw is allowed, or if the save is a success or failure.

Frozen Touch (Ex): At level 1, Frost Demon Assassin deals an extra 1d6 cold damage with armed or unarmed attacks.

Icy Metamorph (Sp): At level 2, Frost Demon Assassin can take on two different forms.

  • Snowstorm Form: 3/day, his body transforms into a flurry of snow. He gains swarm traits, he becomes 20,000 Diminutive snowflakes that fly around in a 15ft cube. In this form he deals damage like a normal swarm, however the type of damage gains a +1 enhancement bonus/4 character levels (Max +5) and is Evil for the purposes of damage reduction. The swarm form has a movement speed of Fly 40ft. In this form he gains a +20 to Disguise checks while in snowy terrain. He can stay in this form for 1 hour.
  • Solid Ice Form: 3/day, his body transforms into magical solid ice. He gains a bonus to movement speed equal to +10 on flat surfaces, or +20 while going downward on downhill surfaces, or +30 on icy surfaces of any type. In this form he gains a +5 to Disguise checks while in snowy terrain. He can stay in this form for 1 hour.

Aura of Frost (Su): At level 2, hoar ice begins to appear on everything within a 15ft radius area centered on the Frost Demon Assassin. This aura can be activated or dispelled as a free action. At the beginning of the turn of any unprotected creature(s) in this aura must make a Fortitude save or take 1d6 cold damage. DC 10 + class level + Con modifier.

Black Ice (Su): At level 3, 3/day, as a standard action, Frost Demon Assassin rapidly freezes the ground, making it slippery and full of giant sharp icicles. He can freeze up to 20ft square/class level within a range of 200ft that lasts for 1 round/class level. Anyone who walks on the Black Ice must make a Balance Check or fall prone. DC 10 + class level + Con modifier. Those who walk on the Black Ice take 1d6 piercing damage for every 5ft they walk. The Frost Demon Assassin is not affected by any of the negative effects of this ability.

Frost Bite (Ex): At level 3, once per day per opponent, if the Frost Demon Assassin deals any amount of cold damage to an opponent, the opponent's body becomes frozen stiff with demonic ice. They must make a Fort save or be paralyzed for 1 round/2 class levels. DC 10 + class level + Con modifier.

Aura of Winter (Su): At level 4, the temperature drops below freezing and a powerful blizzard erupts in the 15ft radius area centered on the Frost Demon Assassin. This aura can be activated or dispelled as a free action. At the beginning of the turn of each unprotected creature(s) in this aura must make a Fortitude save or suffer -1 dexterity ability damage. Spellcasters must make a concentration check whenever they cast a spell at DC 10 + spell level + Con modifer. Visibility is reduced to 5 feet, making Spot, Search, and Listen checks and all ranged attacks impossible. Unprotected flames are automatically extinguished and protected flames have a 50% chance of being doused. One foot of new snow falls each round. Movement within the area is impeded, depending on the creature’s size and depth of snow. The Frost Demon Assassin is not affected by any of the negative effects of this aura (including visibility).

Horde of Ice Clones (Su): At level 6, 1/day, as a standard action, a Frost Demon Assassin can create an Ice Clone of himself with a hardness of 10 and 10 hp up to 60 ft away from him. An Ice Clone generates the effect of Aura of Winter. An Ice Clone looks exactly like the Frost Demon Assassin but it is immobile and cannot attack in anyway and only lasts for 1 round/Frost Demon Assassin level, though he may dismiss the Ice Clones as a move action. An Ice Clone shatters at the end of its duration or when dismissed, hitting all adjacent creatures and dealing 1d6 damage/Frost Demon Assassin level. An Ice Clone that is reduced to 0 Hit Points will not shatter. If the Frost Demon Assassin causes an opponent to go to below 0 Hit Points in any way, he gains an additional use of this ability that day.

Ice Step (Sp): At level 6, Frost Demon Assassin gains the ability to leap great distances with ice similar to a Shadow Dancer. Max 120 ft anywhere there is ice.

Control Weather (Sp): At level 6, a Frost Demon Assassin can change the even sunny weather into a snow storm. 1/day, he can use Control Weather as a spell-like ability, except that he can only change the weather to "Winter", no matter what time of year it is.

Playing a Frost Demon Assassin

Religion: Frost Demon Assassins are only inclined to worship those who hold power over them.

Other Classes: Frost Demon Assassins rarely seek aid. Rogues and Bards may find great companionship with a Frost Demon Assassin. Paladins, Clerics, and other lawful individuals may have a harder time dealing with a Frost Demon Assassin's cold shoulder.

Combat: Frost Demon Assassins use every ability in their arsenal to keep enemies bewildered and unable to react. They are tricky melee combatants that use the cover of unexpectedly bad snowy weather so they can get close enough to kill them. They will freeze the ground and air to constantly keep their foes off-balanced. Ice Clones make the perfect portals to jump through with Ice Step to constantly be dodging around the combat.

Perfection and symmetry of a snowflake, so beautiful and cold. Like death.
—Duncan Essex, Human Frost Demon Assassin

NPC Reactions: Frost Demon Assassins seem human until you shake hands.

Frost Demon Assassins in the Game

Frost Demon Assassins love to stalk their prey from afar.

Adaptation: Frost Demon Assassins make good replacements for a blasting spellcaster, though they can handle being in melee range without worrying too much about dying instantly.

*Possible Abilities*

Icicle (Su): At level X, a Frost Demon Assassin freezes the air to create javelin sized icicles. Creating any number of icicles and throwing them is a full round action. You can create a number of icicles equal to the number of melee attacks you can make in a full round of attacking. These icicles are treated as a ranged attack dealing 1d8 damage with a range of 100 ft and use your dexterity modifier on attack roll and strength modifier on the damage roll.

Icicle Blast (Su): At level Y, Frost Demon Assassin affinity for the supernatural cold gives him the ability to conjure a cone of ice shards. Once every 1d4 rounds, as a standard action, he can a shoot a 20ft cone from his mouth that deals cold damage equal to 1d6/class level. If the breath weapon deals damage, creatures caught in the area can attempt Reflex saves to take half damage. The save DC against a breath weapon is 10 + ½ HD + Con modifier. This ability can be used in his Snowstorm Form and in any other form that possesses a mouth.

gollark: I use OpenSSH as a client and TinySSH as a server, it works okay.
gollark: What SSH client and server are you using?
gollark: Not weird key-exchange issues or whatever.
gollark: Weird. In my experience SSH either just doesn't work at all because I broke it somehow, denies me access for some reason, or works fine.
gollark: And the hinge rotates 180 degrees, but the panel is a 1366x768 TN one with awful viewing angles.
