This revolver-like firearm, approximately 9" in length, earned its name for its use of a flintlock ammunition system and its resemblance to a household pepper grinder. Unlike an actual revolver each chamber has its own barrel, making a complex indexing system unnecessary.

The wielder may load six rounds as an action and may then proceed to fire each round as an individual action, needing to reload once all six barrels have been emptied.

The Flintlock Pepperbox fires .45 caliber rounds.

Ammunition

.45 Cal (Standard)

This is standard ammunition fired by the Flintlock Pepperbox.

Ammunition Construction Requirements (crafts 24 rounds):

  • .45 caliber cast (not consumed)
  • smelter's crucible (not consumed)
  • 1lb of steel, silver, copper, aluminum, bismuth, gold or bronze.

Enchantments

Bloodbath

Requirements: none.

Description:

This enchantment allows the user to continue to fire shots from an otherwise emptied gun by draining their own life force. The flintlock pepperbox's wielder bleeds 2 damage (1 during their action, 1 during their bonus action) to fire an additional enchanted bullet that deals an extra 1d4 damage to its target on a hit.

Enchanting ritual:

1 pint of human blood poured over the weapon which is then buried in a pile of gold and silver pieces or valuable gemstones worth a total of no less than 100 gold pieces. The weapon may be unearthed 4 hours later and is then enchanted, the treasure and blood will have been absorbed by firearm.

Vorpal Sleight

Requirements: Blade modification.

Description:

This enchantment allows the user to make a melee attack with their action using the flintlock pepperbox's blade mod and then fire a shot using their bonus action that same turn.

Enchanting ritual:

This weapon must be targeted by illusory magic (such as prestidigitation) while fully loaded and submersed in water, the ammunition contained within will have be absorbed by the firearm and the enchantment will then become active.

Modifications

Long Barrel

This modification increases the Flintlock Pepperbox's firing range by 15 feet (increasing the range to 20 to 65 feet) by increasing the barrel length by 7", bringing the firearm's total length to 16". This increases the firearm's total weight by 2lbs. The player is disadvantaged when firing at a distance between 50 and 65 feet.

Mod Construction Requirements:

  • 2lbs of steel
  • 1lbs of tinkering supplies
  • 2lbs of smith's supplies
  • 4 hours construction time
Blade

This modification to the Flintlock Pepperbox involves smithing a blade along the chassis of the weapon, effectively allowing it to be used as a shortsword in addition to its use as a firearm. When used as a shortsword this weapon deals 1d6 slashing damage. This modification increases the firearm's total weight by 3lbs.

Mod Construction Requirements:

  • 2lbs of steel
  • 1lbs of tinkering supplies
  • 2lbs of smith's supplies
  • 6 hours construction time
Shoulder Stock

This modification to the Flintlock Pepperbox involves a mounting a shoulder stock on the firearm to allow the wielder to brace themselves, reducing the impact of recoil on fire almost entirely, increasing the weapon's accuracy (add +1 to your attack roll when making an attack with this weapon). This modification increases the firearm's weight by 4lbs.

Mod Construction Requirements:

  • 1lbs of steel
  • 2lbs of wood, bone, or ivory
  • 2lbs of smith's supplies
  • 8 hours construction time
Octobarrel

This modification to the Flintlock Pepperbox involves a complete reimplementation of the chamber and barrel system of the firearm, overhauled such that there are 8 chambers and barrels allowing for eight shots to be fired before needing to reload. This alters the base weight of the weapon from 4lbs to 5lbs (not including any other mods that may add further weight to the weapon).

Mod Construction Requirements:

  • 3lbs of steel
  • 4lbs of tinkering supplies
  • 2lbs of smith's supplies
  • 8 hours construction time
gollark: Also, MRI scanners would be cheaper.
gollark: Also, weird floating trains totally count, they are cool.
gollark: If they were cheap enough they would probably be used *everywhere*.
