Speak with Spiders. The spider can communicate simple concepts to other spiders and spider-like creatures such as driders and ettercaps when it speaks in Fiend Spider.

Spider Climb. The spider can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Web Sense. While in contact with a web, the spider knows the exact location of any other creature in contact with the same web.

Web Walk. The spider ignores movement restrictions imposed by webbing.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The spider makes two bite attacks, then uses its Web if it can.

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 14 (3d6 + 4) piercing damage, and the target must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw, taking 11 (2d10) poison damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. If the poison damage reduces the target to 0 hit points, the target is stable but poisoned for 1 hour, even after regaining hit points, and is paralysed while poisoned in this way.

Web (Recharge 5-6). Ranged Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, range 30/60 ft., one creature. Hit: The target is restrained by webbing, taking 10 (3d6) fire damage at the start of each of its turns. As an action, the restrained target can make a DC 16 Strength check, bursting the webbing on a success. The webbing can also be attacked and destroyed (AC 10; hp 5; immunity to bludgeoning, fire, poison, and psychic damage).

Fiend spiders are mighty spiders that fancy themselves the rulers of all spiders. They are massive creatures with deep red exoskeletons that are immune to fire and toxins, and have some measure of protection against the cold. They lurk in dark places, and often surround themselves with lesser spiders that they use as guards or tiny spies.
The webs hurled by fiend spiders in combat are burning hot, though they can also spin cooler strands to construct sprawling webs.

Vessels of Evil. The drow believe that fiend spiders are blessed by Lolth. For this reason, any drow priestess that can draw such a spider into their service is seen as a sign the Spider Queen's approval and her disapproval of the drow's enemies.

gollark: Much better than religion lessons, which were somewhat uncool.
gollark: We did something like six philosophy lessons last school year for some reason. It was pretty neat, actually.
gollark: It's not my test, the test thing is https://lucasnorth.uk/sapply/, I just have a nice visualization for it.
gollark: It's 1.2GB so downloading it would eat up my internet uplink for 20 minutes, in any case.
gollark: It's actually available on my website, though I don't offer bulk download yet.
