Erase History (5e Spell)

Choose a creature you can touch. For the entire cast time, that creature must remain in the same space, never moving more than 5 feet from it. That creature must have social connections of some type, or else the spell is cast and wasted.

This page is of questionable balance. Reason: How can 10 creatures be targeted if the range is "touch"? Mechanically vague: What does "a target actively thinking about the target" mean? How many social connections are affected?

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Erase History
6th-level enchantment
Casting time: 8 hours
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (an incense which is spread over the target to completely mask their scent)
Duration: Until dispelled

Choose up to 10 creatures that have a social connection to the creature you touch, and these 10 must each make a Wisdom saving throw. A target has disadvantage if it is not actively thinking about the creature you are touching. The weakest (usually most recent) connections are severed first. Any memory gaps caused by this are filled with other creatures they know or simply are replaced with mundane memories. If these creatures interact with the target in the future, they do not remember them and act as if they are strangers.

The caster may designate any number of creatures they know of to be unaffected by this spell. The caster can allow themselves to be affected by this spell, which will also remove the memory of casting this spell on the target.

A 5th level casting of the greater restoration spell, 6th level casting of dispel magic, 7th level casting of reversal, or a 9th level casting of wish can reverse these effects.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, 5 additional social connections can be severed for each spell slot above 6th.
