Wondrous item (mask), legendary (automatically attunes) Please see Polymorph Fatigue for a clear understanding of these cursed items. It’s just a dragon mask in the shape of a female dragon head. What could go wrong? Sometimes, when great warriors would slay dragons, the would take their essence and forge it into a mask so that they may be able to harness the power of the dragon. But they did not foresee they terrible curse that would be born through this mask. You may spend a bonus action to donn this mask, gaining a dragon breath attack equal to that of a wyrmling. You also gain a +1 bonus to your Armor Class while wearing this mask. Curse. This mask feels strange when you put it on, and cannot be removed after one minute without the use of a spell such as remove curse. After 10 minutes, these spells also fail, as the curse takes hold. You start growing scales in the color of the mask all over your face and body. These are unnoticeable at first, but after 1 hour, your body is almost fully covered by these scales. Around this period, your nails also start growing into sharp tips and you start feeling a small protrusion at your back. At the 30 minute mark, your hands and feet are those of a dragon and you have a 2 foot tail. In the last 30 minutes, your head turns more and more into that of a dragon, your tails grows to a length of around 9 feet and when you have worn the mask for precisely 1 hour, you sprout wings from your back and the mask will release itself from your face. Your transformation into an anthro dragon is complete. Also, if it was a female mask, you might have some extra weight at the front, and the same is true the other way around. This transformation counts as shapechange. You keep your mental ability scores (Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma, but your physical ability scores are replaced by those of the anthro dragon. You keep your own hit points and retain the benefit of any features from your all sources expect for your race. Due to your transformation, your race is now classified as an anthro dragon and you no longer receive the benefits and features provided by your previous race. You can wear most equipment without problem, but you can’t wear armor that’s not accommodated for a tail or wings. Additionally, when you wings sprouted, your armor may have been broken or destroyed. If your hit points drop to 0, you are knocked unconscious, as this is your true form. Lastly, your creature type is treated as both humanoid and dragon. After releasing itself from a humanoid after finishing its transformation, the mask will be rendered gray and powerless. The mask will only be reawakened after a new Dragon becomes bound to the mask. In addition, essence of the Dragon that was contained in the mask tries to overtake you constantly. In order to prevent this, you need to become a dragon yourself in a way. While many of the diets are simple, most chromatic dragons will expect you to kill humanoids. You must consume the diet for your dragon type (listed below) at least once per month. If you fail to do so, you must make a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw at the end of your next short or long rest. If you succeed, the dragon soul cannot try to overtake you for another month. However, if you fail, the soul will overtake your body for one day to try and satisfy its needs by any means necessary. After the day passes, you may make a new save. Should you fail three consecutive saves, the essence will corrupt your soul and permanently possess your body where your character will fall under DM's control.
Curing this CurseBecause this mask auto-attunes to the wearer, it is more difficult to cure than some other curses. First, you will need to cast remove curse to end the attunement to the mask. Once that is done, then you can use greater restoration on the affected player to return them to normal. However, if they forget to remove the mask, the transformation will restart after 1 minute with the item auto-attuning to the creature again. If the transformation is completed, a wish spell may be used to return the wearer to normal, as well as destroy the mask entirely if the player wishes to do so. |
