Deino (5e Race)

Deino

Physical Description

Deino is a small blue quadrupedal pokémon with black fur covering its head and neck, concealing everything but its mouth from view. It is thus known to be blind. The fur around its neck also has six purple spots encircling it, which resemble bruises. The hair on the top of its head takes the shape of a single small horn. It also has a short tail that appears to be bitten off. Its four legs each have a small protruded toe.

History

Deino were one of the pseudo-legendary dragon pokemon discovered in the mountainous of the Unova region. They were revered because of their evolution into zweilous and hydreigon, two well-known dragon pokemon. Like their later evolutions, deino have a reputation for viciousness. Since they are blind from birth, they essentially bite at anything they can sense moving, as well as any source of noise. They are known to amazing stamina and vitality, characteristic of most dragon types. As a result, spelunkers always warn others when going into caves where these pokemon dwell, since they never stop biting and can hold fast for days. This defense mechanism is believed to allow them to strike first and ask questions later, since they are so small. They require a lot of food to grow into their greatest dragon potential. They are a favorite pokemon among young children due to their size, though one must be wary to train them well before handing it off to a child.

Society

Deino are always seemingly irate and violent, hence their dubbed name "the irate pokemon." Their blindness not only causes them to bite everything, but also to ram into things, and angrily keep doing so, resulting in bruises. They live usually in cave systems where the water was plentiful. They are by no means picky eaters and will often bite each other within their own pack. Hydreigon and zweilous do not look after their deino young, instead letting them congregate in packs meant to hunt as a unit. Together, their snapping power is incredible. After a deino gets bigger, however, they often will end up leaving their pack and going solitary. This is because they will eventually grow a second head, becoming a zweilous.

Deino Names

Deino usually have draconic kind of names. It is gender-neutral and typically has some kind of snarl or growl sound which is their signature noise when biting.

Racial Evolution Feats

To mimic pokemon evolution, when you would reach a level where you can take a feat, you may take these racial feats. When you do, your very form changes.

Zweilous

Prerequisite: deino
You grow two heads, and develop your appetite and size a bit, to about 4 feet.

  • Your size becomes Medium.
  • Your blindsight range increases to 120 feet.
  • When you make an attack with your bite, you may expend your bonus action to make another bite attack.

Hydreigon

Prerequisite: deino, Zweilous feat
The leader of your two heads takes charge over the other. Your growth rapidly expands and the leader is now the main head, with two arms ending in smaller heads. The fur on your body pulls back from your face to reveal your diseased eyes, growing six thin black wings on your back. Your appetite remains voracious, and now you can eat anything.

  • You now hover off the ground with your small wings. This allows you to ignore most forms of difficult terrain. However, you can float no higher than 5 feet and when you are reduced to 0 hit points you stop hovering.
  • You are immune to being poisoned or getting diseases by food and water.
  • Instead of one, you may make two attacks with your bonus action when you use your bite attack.
