Cheshire (3.5e Race)

Cheshire

Personality

Cheshire are some of the smartest, most cunning creatures you could ever meet. The playful ones are often pranksters, and the calculated ones are often con artists. They lean towards mischief, and whether they lean toward good or evil, it is something that usually defines the race as a whole.

Physical Description

At first glance, a cheshire may seem to be nothing at all. An ordinary housecat, without a care in the world. If this is the case for you, then you'll be in for a shock when it turns to smile at you. Cheshire have more muscles in their face than most other cats, allowing them more powers of expression, and most notable, the power to put on one of their infamous, mischievous smiles. The other shock you may run into is when they disappear or reappear entirely, the facial area always being the first to appear or the last to vanish. You see, cheshire have the innate ability to turn invisible on command, a useful skill that they use often. Cheshire cats usually are coloured just like any normal cat, and always have fur patterns like that of a normal cat (for example, tabby or calico). However, it is not quite uncommon to find a cheshire with one vibrant, almost neon, unnatural colour. This can make for a striking appearance, and usually cheshire with these fur colours are quite proud of this fact even though it ruins their camouflage. Their eyes can be any colour, but are always a vibrent one.

Relations

To a degree, cheshire get along with any races (even if for some getting along would be annoying to death). Some races such as fauns or satyrs that enjoy laughter and fun are usually eager to welcome a cheshire, but other races like grey elves that are on the posh, or, well, serious end of the spectrum often don't enjoy the company of a cheshire. They can't do much about this, however. A cheshire that's been threatened will be able to easily vanish and escape, a skill that cheshire really love to annoy these posh races with.

Alignment

Cheshire are most often chaotic, their love of mischief bringin to those requiring karmic balance leads them to this end of the spectrum. However, lawful cheshire are in existence, and not even a rarity. They are cool, calm, and collected cheshire who scheme to find solutions to whatever problems they may face. To a lawful good, this may be how to save a town, and to a lawful evil it may be to steal a town. You never know. Cheshire are also great actors, and able to con even the most perceptive into believing they are of another alignment then they are in actuality.

Lands

Cheshire live in places they can find food and water as a first priority. It's important for them to survive, and this would rule out places like a desert. However, the favored enviornment of the cheshire is not just a place where they can eat and drink, but one where they can climb. Places such as thick forests, tall mountains, and large cities are places that excite a cheshire. As long as there are sustenances to consume, levels to climb, and sentients to speak with, your average cheshire is good.

Religion

Chesire don't tend to be the religious type, and when they become the religious type they are most often devout worshipers of whatever cat god or goddess is in that religion and little else.

Language

Chesire speak their languages fluently, and often eloquently, and these languages usually include common, sylvan, and a few others depending on location.

Names

Though they can speak huminoid languages just fine, most cheshire are at first given a name that sounds like a cat noise. Because of this, and the fact that no one seems to pronounce it right outside of catfolk and a few other kinds of beast races, cheshire often change it to whatever the equivalent is in the most common language around.
