Cartomancer


Welcome to the world of cartomancy. Whether a gambler or trickster, the Cartomancer uses the quick movements in their hand paired with the magic infused within the cards to make sure lady luck is smiling upon them. The skill to use a deck of cards to "cast" a number of powerful spells. Don't think of the as "casting", instead think of it as translating the cards. Turning the cards into a new language which has the same power as magic incantations, only more powerful. Use this power wisely for if you go beyond your limits, you will pay a hefty price. Creating a Cartomancer

Quick Build

You can make a cartomacer quickly by following these suggestions. First, Charisma should be your highest ability score, followed by dexterity. Second, choose the charlatan background. Third, choose a rapier or a dagger and the Burglars pack.

Class Features

As a Cartomancer you gain the following class features.

Hit Points

Hit Dice: 1d8 per cartomancer level per Cartomancer level
Hit Points at 1st Level: 1d8 per cartomancer level + Constitution modifier
Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d8 per cartomancer level (or Expression error: Unrecognized word "per".) + Constitution modifier per Cartomancer level after 1st

Proficiencies

Armor: Light
Weapons: Simple, and martial melee weapons
Tools: Deck of Cards
Saving Throws: Dexterity, Charisma
Skills: Choose four from Arcana, Deception, Insight, Perception, Stealth, and Sleight of Hand.

Equipment

You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:

  • (a) a simple weapon or (b) a martial weapon
  • (a) a diplomat's pack or (b) a Burglar's pack
  • leather armor, 5 throwing daggers, and a deck of playing Cards

Ability Score Increase

When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
