Brood Warrior, BoF

The Brood Warrior, aka the Dragon Warrior, is a member of the Brood race that was either born, created, or given the ability to transform into the powerful forms of the dragons of old. This ability seems to take different forms, in both the forms taken and the form of the manifestation of this ability. In addition to this power to shift their forms, comes the ability to cast divine spells in a natural capacity, without the need for intervention from a deity.

Making a Brood Warrior, BoF

The Brood Warrior is most effective, at low-levels, as a support caster and a supportive combative as they have the divine spells to cast while in armor and the feats to use for combat effectiveness. At mid-level however, the Brood Warrior starts to gain the ability to transform into their dragon counter-parts giving them a variety of roles within a party depending on the form they take. At this point and later on, they make for a good tank or damage dealer, as well as a good party transport or even a 'weapons platform' in certain circumstances. At higher levels, however, they work better in their warrior form than their dragon forms. Giving them the ability to speak (and therefore cast spells), or use weapons while in a more powerful form.

Abilities: Most of the Brood Warriors abilities use the Wisdom and (to a lesser extent) Strength stats, and therefore make those two the most important to the Brood Warrior. However, being much like the Druid, the physical stats are as important to the Brood Warrior (except for Constitution) as they are mostly replaced by their other forms physical stat set. Making the mental stats a better set to improve over the others. However, like all characters, every ability stat can be vital.

Races: The Brood race is the most likely to be Brood Warriors, and except for divine intervention, are the only race capable of taking the Brood Warrior class. However, as stated before, some deities (the endless in the BoF campaign or deities such as Bahamut or Tiamat in others) can give other races the power of the Brood Warrior. Granting them the power to cast the divine spells as well as transform themselves into the powerful forms of the dragons that this class revolves around.

Alignment: A Brood Warrior can literally be any alignment, but tend toward Lawful- or Neutral-Good with some tending towards Lawful- or Neutral-Evil. This is mostly depends on the setting of the game you are playing in and the history of the Brood within that game. Look at the first game, the Dragon Clan (or Brood as later named) were more like humans and plentiful. However, in the third game, there were not many left as the Brood were driven to extinction and the only two left went to the good and evil ends of alignment because of it (and the influence of a 'deity'). Then there was the fourth game, where their were many 'dragon clan' but only two that were still humanoid. One was good and still early in personality development, the other was teetering on Lawful Neutral and Lawful Evil until late in the game. These are only some ideas of the Brood Warriors.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the brood warrior.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Brood Warriors are proficient with the following weapons: ??. They are also proficient with all natural attacks (claw, bite, and so forth) of any form they assume with wild shape (see below).

Brood Warriors are proficient with light and medium armor and with shields (except tower shields).

Spells: A Brood Warrior casts divine spells, which are drawn from the brood warrior spell list. Her alignment may restrict her from casting certain spells opposed to her moral or ethical beliefs; see Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells, below. A Brood Warrior casts spells from a list of known spells (see below).

To cast a spell, the Brood Warrior must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a brood warrior’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the brood warrior’s Wisdom modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a druid can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table: The Brood Warrior. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Wisdom score. She does not have access to any domain spells or granted powers, as a cleric does.

A brood warrior casts spells the way a sorcerer or favored soul does. A Brood Warrior can cast any spell that she knows, as long as she still has spells for that specific level left.

Bonus Feat: Pull from fighter bonus feats (until further notice)

Super Combo: A Brood Warrior of 4th level gains an extra attack within their full-attack action, at the highest BAB that they have. However, each attack (until the start of his next turn) takes a -2 penalty to attack rolls. This penalty is reduced to -1 at level 10 and is removed entirely at level 16. This ability may only be used in humanoid forms, meaning it can only be used while in his normal, warrior dragon, and true dragon forms.

Dragon Shape (Su): At 3rd level, a brood warrior gains the ability to turn herself into a whelp and back again once per day. Her options for new forms are listed down below, and then only from lists that she has gained access to. This ability functions like the alternate form special ability polymorph spell, except as noted here. The effect lasts for 1 hour per brood warrior level, or until she changes back. Changing form (to a dragon or back) is a standard action and doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity. Each time you use dragon shape, you regain lost hit points as if you had rested for a night.

Any gear worn or carried by the brood warrior melds into the new form and becomes nonfunctional. When the brood warrior reverts to her true form, any objects previously melded into the new form reappear in the same location on her body that they previously occupied and are once again functional. Any new items worn in the assumed form fall off and land at the brood warrior's feet.

A brood warrior loses her ability to speak while in any whelp form because she is limited to the sounds that a normal baby dragon can make, but she can communicate normally with other whelps.

A brood warrior can use this ability more times per day at 6th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 15th, 18th, and 20th level, as noted on Table: The Brood Warrior. In addition, she gains the ability to take the shape of an adult dragon at 5th level, a dual elemental dragon at 8th level, a warrior dragon at 11th level, a greater elemental dragon at 15th, a behemoth dragon at 16th, and her true dragon form at 20th level.

The new form’s Hit Dice are equal to the character’s Brood Warrior level and the Brood Warrior gains the effects of the form as noted in the tables below.

Draconic Aspect (Su): At 9th level, the Brood Warrior gains his first Draconic Aspect. Draconic Aspects are a form of shape-shifting that the Brood Warrior can use to alter certain parts of their bodies to match certain aspects of their draconic brethren. Each form of Draconic Aspect follows its own specifications, as detailed below, but they all run from the same source. The Brood Warrior can use her Draconic Aspects a total number of times a day equal to (2 + (1 per 3 levels over level 9)) {to a max of 5 per day at level 18}.

Draconic Wings: As long as you have one use of your Draconic Aspect left, you can grow a pair of scaly dragon wings from your back and fly at a speed equal to twice your land speed with a maneuverability of average. Growing or retracting your wings can be done with a swift action.

Draconic Claws: By spending a single use of your Draconic Aspect Pool, your forearms and hands transform into scaly, draconic claws for a number of rounds equal to 3 + your WIS Mod. The claws deal slashing damage and count as natural weapons for the purpose of being 'armed'. At level 12, the claws deal 1d6 plus STR damage, at 15th - 1d8 plus STR damage, at 18th - 1d10 plus STR damage. At level 14, the warrior can spend another Draconic Aspect Use to add another 1d4 elemental damage to the claws. This elemental damage is chosen when the use is spent and can be chosen from: Fire, Cold, Electricity, Acid, or Force. At level 18, the damage from the elemental damage increases to 2d4.

Draconic Breath: By spending a single use of your Draconic Aspect Pool, you can spew out an elemental breath like that of your draconic brethren. When you choose to use this aspect, you may choose one of the following elements: Fire, Cold, Electricity, Acid, or Sonic. Once chosen, you breath out either a focused (60-ft line) beam of energy, a wide spray of the chosen element (30-ft cone) or a strong blast of almost solidified version of the element (ranged touch - 120 foot range). If you choose the focused beam or wide spray, you deal 8d4 damage (reflex for half), otherwise the attack deals 8d6 damage. (the DC of the reflex save equals a base ten plus the addition of your Brood Warrior level and your Wisdom Modifier)

Timeless Body (Ex): After attaining 15th level, a druid no longer takes ability score penalties for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any penalties she may have already incurred, however, remain in place.

Bonuses still accrue, and the druid still dies of old age when her time is up.
