Border Walker (5e Class)
Border Strider
From the corner of the bar steps out a small man, his face coated in shadows. A long grey cloak flows from his back and the glint of a dagger can be seen in his hand. Light is sucked out of the room as he steps us to a man and stabs him deep in the chest. As a long shadow flies out of him, the light returns to normal and the cloaked figure walks away.
Crouched behind the gravestone is a slight woman, eyeing the creatures breaking forth out of the ground. The place sickens her and life leeches out of her face as the creatures stand. Before long she udders a quick word and stand forth. With fluid motions she attacks the two creatures with a new sense of vitality and the zombies quickly return to the correct side of the veil.
A lone man sleeps in the forest as the bandits approach him. He appears defenseless, dead asleep and without a weapon in sight. On of the bandits approaches him, preparing to slit his throat, but pauses just before. With a sigh, the bandit closes his eyes and with a sense of serenity turns on his comrades. As the last of them die, the bandit ends his own life as well, falling on the pile of bodies. The man blinks once as if coming out of a nap, grimaces at the carnage, and walks off glad to be rid of the bandit’s menace.
What Lies Between
The world as a whole lies between many extremes. Light and Darkness. Life and Death. Wakefulness and Sleep. And more. Oh so much more. The border strider has seen these extremes, but also what lies between. There is great power held in the borders between extremes and the border walker strives to unblock it. Be it the power of shadow, mysteries of dreams, or the enchantment of the veil, they gain a power like none other. A border strider focuses on one of these borders and embraces it, walking the path between the two extremes. A border strider wields these powers with a sharp edge, stopping those who seek to upset it. A master of the powers on both sides, border strider can be formidable foes.
Creating a Border Strider
As you create a border strider, think to yourself: why did your character turn from the safety of the extremes. Did a loved on die that they seek to bring back? Do they wish to uncover the mysteries of sleep? Did they lose something of great import? Whatever the reason, remember that border strider are never completely whole. They give up their ties to either side to walk the path between, and that leaves them less involved that they would otherwise be. Border strider are traditionally on the outskirts of society, protecting they borders they chose and engaging only when necessary.
