Bladedancer, Variant (5e Subclass)

This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Various balance issues, and the way some features are worded can be improved, e.g. 5e doesn't use the term "off-hand": you're either fighting with two weapons or not; and some awkward calculations.

You can help D&D Wiki by better balancing the mechanics of this page. When the mechanics have been changed so that this template is no longer applicable please remove this template. If you do not understand balance please leave comments on this page's talk page before making any edits.

Bladedancer

Rogue Subclass Walking the way of the bladedancer means preferring finesse over brute strength. It means dodging and diving through waves of foes, slicing each one down. It means acrobatically dancing around a giant's punches before felling it. It means wielding two blades at the same time as extensions of your very being.

Dancing Blade

Starting at 3rd level, your fighting style looks more like a dance, as you move nimbly between enemies, avoiding their strikes. When an hostile creature makes an attack against you, you may use your reaction to make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check. If the result of your check is equal to or greater than the attack roll, the attack misses you and you gain advantage on the next attack made against this creature.

After you successfully use this feature to avoid an attack, you must finish a short or long rest in order to use it again.

Blade Expertise

Beginning at 3rd level, any melee weapon you are proficient with that lacks the heavy, two-handed, or special properties is considered a finesse weapon for you.

Dance of a Feather

Starting at 9th level, you gain advantage on all Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks. In addition, you can use your reaction when you fall to reduce any falling damage you take by an amount equal to five times your rogue level.

Death Lotus

At 13th level, as an action, you learn how to perform a incredible number of strikes in with grace and speed, moving as if you were dancing. While wielding a weapon in each hand, you may use your action to make one attack against each enemy within 5 feet of you. While making the attacks, you must alternate between your two weapons with each strike.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Dexterity modifier, regaining all the uses at the end of a short or long rest.

Dance of the Precise

At 17th level, your weapon maneuvers reach their peak performance. You learn one of the following techniques:

  • Dual Opportunist: When you use your reaction to make an opportunity attack while wielding two weapons, you can make one attack with each weapon.
  • Unexpected Death: While fighting with two weapons, if you perform an weapon attack with your bonus action, you can score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20 on the d20.
  • Swift Blade: You can cast haste on yourself as an action. Once you use this feature, you can't do it again until you finish a long rest.
