Petrifying Gaze. Many times, when adventurers and travelers happen upon a basilisk, they are terrified to the point of paralyzation. They are simply petrified, and find it hard to move. A creature must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw to ignore this effect. Once they are effected by it, they are like that indefinitely, until the basilisk is gone, killed, or if they succeed on the saving throw. (Once the saving throw is succeeded, it cannot happen to the same creature by the same Basilisk.)

ACTIONS

Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 10 (2d6 + 3) piercing damage plus 7 (2d6) poison damage.

Wing Sweep. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d10 + 3) slashing damage plus 5 (1d10) bludgeoning damage.

Adventurers commonly find themselves in the peril of a Basilisk, which, as a certain type of Draconid, likes to feast on human flesh. Rather than flying overhead, like they used to, they dwell on the sides of roads, waiting for their quarry to come to them.

Adaptable Predators. Basilisks thrive in arid, temperate, or tropical climates. They lair in caves or other sheltered sites. Most often, they are encountered in heavy forest with many caves.
Basilisks, despite what most people will say, are dangerous. Even raised from birth, side by side with humans, they will be dangerous to humans. They are a carnal creature, and cannot be controlled effectively.
