Physically resembling a shiny black cylinder with a single glowing, unblinking camera eye, these armored structures contain a supergenius-level state-of-the-art AI which single-handedly manages a large starship or an entire city. When forced into self-defense, the cylinder unfolds to reveal a pair of mounted vehicle-scale lasers which can inflict massive damage against any threat. AIs, despite their significant firepower and almost complete invulnerability, are not intended for combat and prefer to send a distress signal when attacked, fighting defensively until help arrives. The statistics above represent a "naked" AI, and does not include any capabilities it might gain from interfacing into communication systems, weapon systems, etc. AIs for the most part are neither good nor evil by nature, only acting in accordance with their programming, though very rarely they may leave the confines of their programming and go rogue. A rogue AI can be a benevolent guardian or mentor, or a terrifying planetary-level threat. |
