In November 1994 Mark Niemiec noticed that its sparks can interact in boring, but non-trivial ways with other oscillators, optionally creating oscillators of higher periods.[2]
Synthesis
A 28-glider synthesis for it was discovered in October 2007 by Jason Summers.[3] In November 2014, Martin Grant posted an 11-glider synthesis based on a symmetric soup found by Ivan Fomichev using apgsearch.[4] In August 2015, Matthias Merzenich posted an 8-glider synthesis based on the first asymmetric soup, found by Adam P. Goucher.[5][6]
Commonness
On Catagolue, it is the fourth most common period 8 oscillator, being less common than Coe's p8 but slightly more common than Achim's p8.[7]
