Sound

Current state: No internal speakers sound on the recent kernel version 5.19.11 due to the Cirrus CS35L41 HD amplifier, which cannot be set up on boot properly. and multiplies eith the tricky Realtek ALC294 audio chipset many users seem to have problems with too. Bluetooth and Headphone jack audio works clueless tough.

The problem is caused by the Cirrus chip and might be solved by booting a patched kernel version (linux-mainline-um5302taAUR), which seems to solve some internal speaker and microphone related problems on some Zenbook models. After booting the error messages on the snd-hda-scodec-cs35l41-i2c module seem to disappear. However, on this particular device the internal sound problem persists.

Many people seem clueless at this point, but there might be a patch in the near future to be merged in the kernel 6.x (see the Ubuntu forum).

Here are some things which did not solve the internal speaker sound issue:

  • Setting ALSA the verbs out of linux.org forum
  • Configuring ALSA modeprobe options using the following options with and without the power_save=0 parameter:
# options snd-hda-intel model=asus-zenboook
# options snd-hda-intel model=asus-zenboook-ux31a
# options snd-hda-intel model=asus-laptop
# options snd-intel-dspcfg dsp_driver=1
  • Forcing the snd-hda-scodec-cs35l41-i2c module to load

It may be wise to check the linked forums from time to time or just keeping the kernel up to date and pray for a patch in a further version.

SuperUser.com user Frithjof Kruggel seems to have got their amplifier to work at last, by combining kernel quirks, kernel module patching and bleeding-edge Cirrus linux-firmware.

gollark: There is likely a password reset plugin, but gibson doesn't have email systems work.
