Zeon Quest
Zeon Quest is a Mobile Suit Gundam re-imagining of the One Year War in the form of a text adventure, created and DM'ed by "I Apologized on 4chan" (Or Apologized for short) on the /tg/ board of 4chan, much like it's spiritual predecessor Ruby Quest.
Most of the quest is centered around Zeon Ace David Lister (No relation to a certain smeghead) and his unit of equally skilled Zeonic pilots. Lister starts as a simple grunt in the Zeonic invasion of Earth, before rising to become a major figure in the war, changing many events in the UC timeline.
The quest concluded on August 13, 2011. A full archive of the quest, with only a few missing entries can be found here.
Tropes used in Zeon Quest include:
- Ace Pilot: Pretty much every named character who flies a suit.
- Action Girl: Jolyne, and also Elaine.
- Alternate Continuity: The goal was to create one, and it finally happened when Garma's death was prevented
- Anti-Villain: Most of the Federation.
- Badass Normal: Bernard Wiseman has no Newtype powers, and he only uses a grunt unit. He's come closer to killing Amuro than even Char.
- Bernie has also managed to successfully hijack Gundam Alex and finish off the Midnight Pixy Death Squad
- Beethoven Was an Alien Spy: Archimedes was a newtype whose spirit now inhabits the Solar Ray.
- BFG: Gundam Units 04 and 05, one focusing on a single Wave Motion Gun, the other choosing More Dakka.
- Big Damn Heroes: Ramba Ral seems to specialize in this.
- "THIS IS NO RICK DOM BOY, NO RICK DOM!"
- And later- "THIS IS NO GELGOOG BOY, NO GELGOOG!"
- Of course, it happens twice in the finale.
- "Tell Boss I'm free now."
- "I have a going away present from my father to you, Gihren."
- Big Screwed-Up Family: "With all due respect sir, your brother's kind of a dick."
- Bilingual Bonus: Nachtmaren- Night Horses
- Also- EL MUERTO GIGANTE!
- Bittersweet Ending: On par for the course for anything related to UC Gundam.
- Non Sequitur Episode: Episode 17 is significantly darker than usual, and the events of it have never been mentioned again.
- Black Best Friend: Zolomon is a positive example of this trope.
- Cluster F-Bomb: David apparently is found of this trope when drunk.
- "FUCKING REVENGE YOU MOTHERFUCKER."
- Colony Drop: The Christmas Special. Also, Ghiren seems to be interested in the possibility of a second one...
- Cool Ship: The Outer Heaven.
- Cyber Cyclops: Pretty much every Zeonic mech ever.
- Even the Guys Want Him: Garma. Or more specifically, Garma's hair.
- The Federation: The antagonists this time around, and the primary enemy until Ghiren ruins everything
- Famous Last Words: "MOTHERFUCKERS! I JUST BOUGHT A BOOOOOOAAAAAAAAT!!!!!"(From the Christmas Special, by Wolfgang Strauss's former superior, Sargeant Khenni)
- "Casval, you!?"
- Genre Savvy: "Kill first, then quip."
- Gundamjack: Been tossed around numerous times. Hovis actually snags a Guncannon II in the Second Jaburo attack
- Glass Cannon: The Death Wasp team specializes with these kinds of suits, and Zeon has Kampfers.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Lister almost has to do this to save Von Braun. Hovis later does the real thing to save Calvin.
- Humongous Mecha: Gundam in general is the reason for this trope's existence.
- Improbable Piloting Skills: Lister didn't know he had a targeting computer. He was kicking too much ass without it.
- It's Personal: Lister gives a speech quite like this after Hovis is killed
- It's Raining Men: The very first episode features this.
- Killed Off for Real: Ramirez, the Black Tri-Stars, and Hovis. And now Zoloman
- Long Runner: 116 parts, in total, over some 22 months.
- Let's Fight Like Gentlemen: Wyatt, the One-Armed Bandit, more often then not fights his rival Lister mano-e-mano.
- Melee a Trois: FUCKING GHIREN
- Mind Rape: Being a Newtype against the EXAM System is like being a Japanese schoolgirl in the octopus tank.
- Military Brat: Or in Lister's case, terrorism brat
- Mid-Season Upgrade: Lister goes through many of these, the main one being from the Act-Zaku to the Nacht-Zaku
- Multi-Armed and Dangerous: The Gyan Eisvogel, or more accurately, the Gyan Skullfucker.
- Mythology Gag: Used very frequently. Almost always one per episode.
- Nuclear Option: As much as the Antarctica Treaty prohibits it, this seems to be the Nachtmaren unofficial answer to everything. GODDAMMIT GHIREN WHO WOULD EVEN GIVE YOU ACCESS TO THESE THINGS IN THE FIRST PLACE
- Off the Rails: This is the whole point of the quest, at least in terms of official UC Canon.
- Oh Crap: Pretty much everyone's reaction to seeing a Gundam. Also, realizing that destroying half of Jaburo caused the Federation to begin mass production of Trojan Horses.
- Paper-Thin Disguise: Elaine's home colony did not allow women to enlist in the army, so she dons a fake mustache(of dubious quality) and enlists as a man. Although she managed to have her identity go unquestioned through sheer luck, when being interviewed for recruitment by Natcherman, David saw through it immediately.
- Putting on the Reich: Ghiren and anyone remotely associated with him. Apologized seems to treat the rest of Zeon more like WWI Germany.
- Real Robot: Obviously, given the source material.
- Red Baron: In addition to the well-known Red Comet and White Devil, we have EL MUERTO GIGANTE, and the One-Armed Bandit
- Sensor Suspense: Apologized loves doing these to make everyone crap themselves.
- Super Prototype: The Act-Zaku could be considered one.
- Tank Goodness: Lister has killed so many tanks that it is physically impossible for Apologized to count them all.
- The Rival: Bandit. The Midnight Pixy Death Squad was intended to be this to Nachtmaren, but failed miserably. Then they got the EXAM system...
- Throwing Your Sword Always Works: If you're Zolomon Ringo, that is.
- Took a Level In Badass: Garma is the best example, but Bernie too
- The Midnight Pixy Death Squad is a slightly less heroic example
- War Is Hell
