Whooshing Credits
The opening credits just fly around, leaving trails behind them. Not as popular with opening credits being used less often in film, but still shows up.
The effect is achieved by a specific form of slit-scan.
Remember, this is only about titles and credits doing this, not the effect of slit-scan by itself. Nor is it just an effect to make the titles seem to pop out. They have to actually move around.
This doesn't just have to be the opening or ending credits. Trailers could count as well.
Compare Vertigo Effect.
Examples of Whooshing Credits include:
Films -- Animation
- Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
- Transformers: The Movie (though not for the title itself, only for the cast credits).
Films -- Live-Action
- Superman is the poster child for this.
- Superman III is the only one that doesn't do this, instead going for a variant on a "scrolling" style.
- The Remake of Invaders From Mars.
- Perhaps the teaser trailer for the Rocky and Bullwinkle movie.
- The Last Starfighter
- Supergirl
Live-Action TV
- Doctor Who has done this ever since the 1996 TV movie.
- All versions of of 3-2-1 Contact's opening featured this to some extent, but Seasons 6 and 7 did it most prominently.
