Fridge Brilliance

WOPR/Joshua, is an artificially intelligent supercomputer tasked with playing a computer game to figure out how to win a nuclear war, and should it actually happen, to implement what it's learned. It hasn't mastered the ideas of "futility", "reality", and "simulation". It is unintentionally tricked into misplacing something meant for "simulation" into "reality", and is talked down by someone playing tic-tac-toe. Now it knows "futility" - AND ITS AUTONOMIC BRAIN FUNCTIONS WILL FORCE IT TO STUDY THE FUTILITY OF ITS EXISTENCE, FOREVER. Maybe someone should turn it off.
