Vampire Apocalypse/Awesome

  • The original human strike against the vampires in the second part of the first book. Humanity has literally been nothing more than cattle for nearly two years. Harris and his team proceed to kill six vampires and all of the thralls guarding them. It's a small start, but they know it's the beginning of the first true resistance.
  • That moment is trumped later in the book with the rescue of close to two hundred prisoners by Harris and company despite the fact that it's a heavily guarded mass execution. Despite the vampires being awake and ready, our heroes manage to successfully escape with nearly all of them.
  • The final battle of the first book is pure undistilled awesome, but it has a few special moments. The best, undoubtedly, is Father Reilly discovering that as a priest he has the power to bless a fire hose.
  • The climax for Descent is too difficult to describe but it involves a train filled with humans, hordes of thralls, two warring armies of vampires, and a race against the clock. It's pure distilled Pulp Awesome with a bit of tragedy as well as triumph.
